Why AS Roma Sacked Jose Mourinho?: Jose Mourinho is once again sacked by a club, and this time it is the Italian one, AS Roma. Despite having a considerably successful run in his first two seasons, Roma’s American owners said bye-bye to the Portuguese halfway through the third season. Why? Let’s find out.
Messiah’s Arrival
Mourinho’s coming to Rome was considered a savior’s arrival. ‘The famous tactical guru who once coached players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba, who has a history of leading a club as small as FC Porto to the UCL triumph, is going to serve us with the pearls of wisdom that he acquired from his tremendous managerial career’: thought Romans. They were ready to chant with him, dance with him, and even speak for him, and they did all of that. And they, in years of drought, saw a final, and for the first time, let’s say in 11 years, AS Roma got their name on a trophy, that too a European one, the Europa Conference League.
The second season went trophyless, but it saw a significant improvement in Roma, they even reached the final of a more important European competition, the UEFA Europa League, but had to return without a trophy, followed by a penalty defeat with the Spanish club Sevilla.

Downfall: Why AS Roma Sacked Jose Mourinho?
When the third season started in 2023, a bit of smoke was already coming out from the backend. And the fans who backed him when the critics, as always, went over him, slowly started doubting him when the results started being at the other end of what they would have been pleased to see. Roma re-entered their losing streak; in fact, they could only win one in the last six, and one of them was too costly: the Copa Italia final, in which they had to bend the knee in front of Lazio.

While these things might have added to his sacking, the top-most thing that turned off the sophisticated American owners of the club was his antics, which continued him wherever he went. The last one was getting banned from the sidelines for abusing the referee. The bosses have had enough, and they made a public statement lately highlighting the termination of his contract with ‘immediate effect’.
“AS Roma can confirm that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday. We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” stated owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.”
What is Next for Jose Mourinho?
Jose Mourinho was on the radar of top guns in Europe every time he was available on the market. But that era has ended after repeated downfalls in recent history. But the Portuguese might end up at some clubs in France, as he still has admirers there. But the most interesting turnout is going to be his possible signing with the Saudi Pro League. Even he has huge admiration for the league, as he once said:
“I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, and I am convinced that I will work there. I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it,” Mourinho once said.
“Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there,” ESPN reported in October 2023.
“Cristiano was the first to go there and give a different perspective immediately. The players thought at first that it was a one-man show, but they realized in the summer that everything was really changing.
“Many players, not just at the last period of their careers, but also some players at the best years of their careers, are coming. Because the competition is real, not just at the domestic league, but also the AFC Champions League is very interesting.” Said the Portuguese.
Will he join the superstar whom he coached once, Cristiano Ronaldo, at Al-Nassr? Or will he end up in clubs like Al-Ahli or Al-Hilal that have shown interest in him before? Or again, will he look for a European tenure? There are a lot of questions, and the answers have to wait.
