BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) Secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the new Chairman of the ICC (International Cricket Council) in an unopposed manner. The question now remains: who will replace him in the position?
Who Will Replace Jay Shah As BCCI Secretary
The leading contender to become the new BCCI Secretary is the current President of the DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association), Rohan Jaitley, son of former DDCA President and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is the namesake of the international cricket stadium in Delhi.
There is still some time remaining in Shah’s tenure as the Secretary of the Indian cricketing board. His spell as the ICC Chairman is set to commence on December 1, 2024. He will replace New Zealand’s Barcley and will be the fourth full-time Chairman of the ICC.
While Barcley was eligible to run for a third term as president, the 62-year-old refused. This led to 16 current directors submitting their nominations by August 27, upon which cricket birds from across the world will vote on the viable candidate.
Shah received massive support from the English and Australian cricket boards and will now become the youngest Chairman of the International Cricket Council at just 36 years old.

But let’s talk about his possible replacement. Rohan Jaitley followed in his father’s footsteps to become the DDCA President. He has been in that position for the past four years. Under his leadership, the Delhi Premier League commenced and has given a strong platform to white-ball cricketers in the National Capital Region.
Following the reports of Jaitley becoming the new BCCI Secretary, a former secretary told Hindustan Times how it is one of the most crucial positions within the organisation, saying,
“Obviously, it can happen as there are no hard and fast rules. But if you look at BCCI’s power structure, the president, secretary, and treasurer are three key posts.”
Currently, former cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny is the BCCI President, while Ashish Shelar is the Treasurer of the organisation.
As for Jay Shah, he laid out his priorities as the next ICC Chairman. In a press conference after his appointment, he said,
“While the T20 is a naturally exciting format, it is equally important that Test cricket remains a priority for everyone as it forms the bedrock of our game. We must see to it that cricketers are driven to longer formats, and our efforts will be channelised towards this goal. We must champion the ICC’s mission further by allocating more resources and attention to women’s cricket and differently-abled cricket.”
With Rohan Jaitley likely becoming the next secretary, it remains to be seen what changes he might bring to BCCI.
