Which Players Will Retire After IPL 2024? – Indian Premier League
With the auction for the 2024 IPL having taken place in December of last year in Dubai, we know which players and legends will be part of the league this year as well.
But each year, rumors about certain players hanging their boots are swirled around, and this year is no different. While some players are rumored to announce their retirement for each of the last few years, others have also joined the list.
Here are five IPL legends who could announce their retirement following the 2024 season
5) Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is a bona fide IPL legend, having been part of the league since its inception. Having played for several teams in the league, Karthik reinvented himself as a solid finisher when he joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022.
As per the Which Players Will Retire After IPL 2024, DK will turn 39 this year, he is the only proper wicketkeeper in the RCB squad this year, meaning he is expected to play a crucial role in the side’s playing XI. But, Karthik saw a sharp decline in form in the 2023 season, with his average going from 55 in 2022, to 11.67 in 2023.
He also stated that his motive for reinventing was to be selected for the national side for the 2022 T20 World Cup. With him nowhere near being in consideration for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, this might as well be the swansong for the Chennai native.

4) Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chwala has been in the national cricketing scene for almost two decades now, surprising when you consider he is only 35 years old. Having debuted for the national team at the age of 17, Chawla showed much promise early in his career which never materialized into him becoming one of the GOATs.
Despite that, he is a World Cup winner and one of the very few bowlers with over 150 IPL wickets. In order to Which Players Will Retire After IPL 2024, In fact, he is the third-highest wicket-taker in league history with 179 scalps, and could easily go past a retired Dwayne Bravo at second with 183 wickets.
Mumbai Indians found a great use for Piyush Chawla in the 2023 season. Not the fittest fielder on the pitch, MI made use of the newly introduced Impact Player rule to bring Chawla in only when required and take him out of the game after his four-over quota was over. This helped make IPL 2023 the most successful season in Chawla’s career, with the veteran taking 22 wickets.
While this might suggest that Piyush Chawla could still go for a few years, he is already looking to wind down his career. The UP native has already made the transition into the commentary box and might just announce his retirement following the 2023 season.

While we are no body-language experts, Rohit Sharma looks defeated ever since India lost the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss. The 36-year-old was blamed for many things in that loss, from his ‘reckless’ wicket to Glenn Maxwell after already having scored 10 runs off the over, to his ‘timid’ captaincy for not bringing in Mohammed Siraj in his regular spot to bowl.
Since the World Cup, Rohit Sharma has scored just 61 runs in six innings in Tests and T20I, having scored three ducks in the process. The rumors also swirled around following the World Cup that Sharma might just step away from limited-overs formats.
