When Will the IPL 2025 Start? In a very interesting and unprecedented decision, the BCCI has finalized the start and end dates of the next three IPL seasons!
Yes, while the IPL 2025 mega auction is yet to take place, the board not only confirmed the dates of next year’s tournament; it has also revealed the dates of the IPL 2026 and IPL 2027 seasons, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.
The Indian board finalized the windows for the next three seasons after getting the player availability confirmation from the other major cricket boards. This also helps the other boards, as now they can plan their schedule of bilateral series to avoid colliding with the IPL.
When Will the IPL 2025 Start? IPL 2025 Start Date Revealed
The IPL 2025 is set to get underway on March 14, and the final will be played on May 25. Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions, having won their third IPL title earlier this year.
Further, the BCCI reportedly informed the franchises that the IPL 2026 season will run from March 15 to May 31, and the IPL 2027 will be played between March 14 and May 30.
The report also confirmed that 74 matches will be played in the IPL 2025, the same as the last three tournaments, even though the BCCI had listed 84 matches for the IPL 2025 season when selling its media rights for the 2023-27 cycle in 2022.
Meanwhile, another interesting news regarding the IPL 2025 mega auction is that England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been added to the mega auction pool, and he will be up for grabs. Archer had initially registered himself for the mega auction but was not named in the list of 574 players shortlisted to go under the hammer.
It was learned that the ECB had apparently not given him the NOC to play in the IPL as they wished to manage his workload. Now, however, the ECB has allowed Archer, along with 17 other centrally contracted players, to be available for the entirety of the next three IPL seasons. Thus, Archer can be bought at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. ECB’s list, though, doesn’t include test captain Ben Stokes, who had pulled out of the mega auction.
