When Will John Cena And Randy Orton Fight?: The first challenger for John Cena’s Undisputed WWE Championship reign has been revealed, and it’s none other than his former career rival Randy Orton. But how will this match come about, and where will it likely take place?
Cena defeated Cody Rhodes for the title in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 41 last weekend and won his 17th world championship, making him the most prolific world champion in WWE history.
On this week’s special episode of Monday Night RAW, the show was kicked off by the champ, who reiterated his talking points from before ‘Mania, that he will win the title and retire with it to ‘ruin professional wrestling’. In a typical captivating Cena promo, the biggest heel in the business revealed that he only has 27 dates left this year with the WWE, after which he will retire for good.

At the end of the promo, however, Randy Orton slid into the ring and hit his long-time rival with an RKO ‘outta nowhere’. Cena and Orton came into the WWE around the same time in 2002. After the two became world champions in the mid-to-late 2000s, their long-running rivalry started.
John was the biggest babyface in the company, while Randy was the biggest heel. So it was natural for the two to go against one another often. These two bona fide legends faced each other dozens of times throughout the years, many times for a world title. Many consider The Viper to be the greatest rival of the Leader of the Cenation.
Randy himself had a big-time match against Kevin Owens planned at WrestleMania. But weeks before the show, Kevin announced that he would be stepping away from in-ring action to get neck surgery, which will likely keep him away from wrestling for well over a year. So, the Legend Killer faced a surprise opponent at the Biggest Stage of Them All, which turned out to be the TNA World Champion Joe Hendry. Randy went on to win the short but competitive match.

Now, after both men were victorious at ‘Mania, it is all but confirmed that John Cena will face Randy Orton in his first title defence for the Undisputed WWE Championship. But where will this match take place?
WWE’s next Premium Live Event is Backlash, which has for a long time been a follow-up show for WrestleMania. This year’s edition of this show has Randy Orton on the poster. Not only that, but the event will also take place in St. Louis, Missouri, which is Orton’s hometown, making it an obvious option for a big-time match for the 14-time world champion.
While a match between the two has not been confirmed yet, the Cena vs Orton match for the Undisputed WWE Championship will most likely take place at Backlash 2025 on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The show will start at 4:30 am on Sunday, May 10, in India and will broadcast live on Netflix.
