When Will Jasprit Bumrah Return: After suffering two defeats in their first three matches of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians recorded their first win of the season by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this week.
The Hardik Pandya-led unit, having lost to CSK and GT, beat KKR in a thumping fashion. MI bowled out KKR for only 116 runs and chased down the target in 12.5 overs.
Uncapped pacer Ashwani Kumar became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in his debut IPL matches, recording outstanding figures of 4/24 in three overs.
The performance of Ashwani against KKR gave MI a boost in their bowling attack that lacks potency in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. MI management would be desperately hoping that they can attain the services of Bumrah as soon as possible, which would make their pace attack that includes Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult perhaps the best in the league.
But the question remains: when will Bumrah return? That is, if he returns indeed in IPL 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since walking off in the middle of the Sydney Test match in January. He missed the home white-ball matches against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which India won, due to a back injury.

He hasn’t required surgery and has been training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (previously the NCA) in Bengaluru.
What is the latest update on Jasprit Bumrah?
According to a report in Times of India, Bumrah, who is at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, is deemed “clinically fit,” but he is nowhere near his best in terms of fast bowling. His bowling workload is being gradually increased and cautiously monitored, and a return to action is still a long time away.
When will Jasprit Bumrah return? Will he play in IPL 2025?
Bumrah’s injury has been said to be more serious than initially thought. He has missed MI’s first three matches in IPL 2025 and is expected to miss at least three more matches. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the bowling maestro will not only playing against MI’s game against LSG on April 4, but also will miss their high profile game against RCB on April 7. In fact, his return is likely to be longer than this.
“Bumrah’s injury is a bit more serious. The medical team wants to ensure he doesn’t suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful. He is bowling at the CoE, but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April,” a source told TOI.
Keeping in mind the five-Test series in England that will follow the IPL, Bumrah will not be rushed back to action in the IPL.
