Where will the Asia Cup 2025 be played: The India vs Pakistan cricket rivalry will resume with the Asia Cup 2025 later in the year.
The two arch-rivals recently met in Dubai in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash, in which India emerged victorious by six wickets, courtesy of a stunning century from Virat Kohli.
That result knocked Pakistan out of the Champions Trophy, a tournament that they are hosting, while India sealed their place in the semi-finals and are strong contenders to lift the trophy.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be conducting the Asia Cup later this year. It will be in the T20 format because there is a T20 World Cup next year, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
When is the Asia Cup 2025?
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the Asia Cup will be played between the second and fourth week of September 2025.
Where will the Asia Cup 2025 be played? Venue details
Earlier, India was set to host the Asia Cup, but because of the Indo-Pak strained relationship, the tournament will be played either in the UAE or Sri Lanka, according to Cricbuzz. The BCCI will remain the designated host.
The venue change from India to a neutral country (UAE or Sri Lanka) comes after the ICC Champions Trophy was decided to be played in a hybrid model—with India playing all their games in Dubai—as the Indian government denied permission for the Indian team to travel to Pakistan.
Then, it was decided that in all ICC events until 2027, India will not travel to Pakistan, and Pakistan will also not travel to India. Hence, their matches in the tournaments hosted by these two countries will be played in a neutral venue.
The same arrangement has been finalized for the Asia Cup—there are four Asia Cups in ACC’s current cycle, which ends in 2031.
Asia Cup 2025 groups and format:
Eight teams will take part in the Asia Cup this year: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four each, with India and Pakistan reportedly set to be grouped together. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 4 round, and the top two teams in that round will meet in the final. Hence, there is a possibility for three India vs Pakistan matches.
