West Indies vs Uganda 2024 T20 WC Match Report: West Indies registered the second-largest win in the history of the T20 World Cup against Uganda to take another step towards the Super 8.
The co-hosts took on Uganda in a Group C match in Guyana’s Providence Stadium. The two-time World Champions won the toss and decided to bat first.

Openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles gave The West Indies a solid start. The 41-run partnership was broken in the fifth over when King was bowled by all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani.
From this point, the inning slowed down considerably, with the West Indies looking to put up a decent total without losing the plot. Nicholas Pooran came in and scored 22 before being dismissed.

By the time Johnson Charles was dismissed, the West Indies was at 105/3 in the 13th over.
Captain Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Andre Russell played 20+ run innings to the Windies to a solid total of 173/5 at the end of their 20 overs.
As soon as Uganda’s inning started, it went off the rails. Opener Roger Mukasa found his leg before the wickets for a duck in the first over. Simon Ssesazi was dismissed in the second over. Alpesh Ramjani returned to the pavilion in the third. By the time Robinson Obuya and Riazat Ali Shah were dismissed in the fourth and fifth over, Uganda was 19/5.
As soon as the powerplay ended, Dinesh Nakrani and Kenneth Waiswa were dismissed too. With seven down, West Indies spinner Akeal Hossein completed his fifer. He ended the game with unreal figures of 5/11 in four overs.
Forget building a meaningful partnership, the Uganda batters were fighting for the life out on the pitch. The last three wickets did not take long to fall as the African minnows were dismissed for just 39 in 12 overs.
West Indies won the match by 134 runs. For his brilliant stint with the ball, Akeal Hossein was named the Player of the Match.
This match broke a few records. Not only was this the biggest margin of victory for the West Indies in T20s, but this was also the second-largest margin in the history of the T20 World Cup.
As for Uganda, they tied the unwanted record of the lowest inning total in the history of the T20 World Cup.
With this win, the West Indies climbed to second in Group C behind Afghanistan. The Carribean side has four points in two matches with a net run rate of +3.574. But they now have their two toughest games ahead of them, those being against New Zealand on June 13 and against Afghanistan on June 18.
