Wasim Jaffer says Shubman Gill Should Open: India’s young prospect, Shubman Gill, is under the gunpoint of the critics after his miserable performance in the first test against England. The 24-year-old not only failed to create an impact against England in the recent match but also fumbled in the Test series against South Africa.
While the critics want Gill out of the team and to play someone more deserving, former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Jaffer has some other suggestions. What did he say?
Wasim Jaffer Says Shubman Gill Should Open
The former right-handed batter thinks that the Gujarat Titans captain should return to his more natural position, i.e., opening. He wants the captain, Rohit Sharma, at one-down, as he has the expertise to play the spin as well.
“Gill and Jaiswal should open, and Rohit should bat at No. 3 in the 2nd Test, in my opinion. Waiting to bat for his turn isn’t helping Shubman; he should open the inn. Rohit plays spin well, so batting at No. 3 should not worry him too much. #INDvENG,” he wrote on X.
What’s Next for Gill?
The upcoming second Test of the series will probably be the last chance for Shubman Gill to prove to the critics that they are wrong. Once Virat Kohli be back by the third Test, it will be a challenge for the opener to keep his place in the red ball cricket in a talent-stacked team.
