Wasim Akram Reveals IPL Routine Of Sunil Narine: Legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram reveals Sunil Narine’s bizarre schedule during the IPL.
Narine has been in the best batting form of his life in IPL 2024 for Kolkata Knight Riders. In the seven matches he has opened the batting for the team this season, he has scored a solid 286 runs with an average of 40 and a strike rate of over 170. He also scored the first century of his professional career this season against the Rajasthan Royals.
He has also chipped in a lot with the ball, taking nine wickets in seven matches so far.
This is not the first season he has shined with the bat in IPL, but it surely is his most fruitful one. His exploits are partly to blame for KKR being second in the points table at the moment with 10 points in seven matches.
Wasim Akram was KKR’s bowling consultant from 2010 to 2016. In that time, he worked with and groomed a lot of talent in that franchise along with winning the IPL on two occasions. The likes of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav partly credit him for their success.
Wasim Akram Reveals IPL Routine Of Sunil Narine
His tenure coincided with Sunil Narine’s 2012 IPL debut for the Knight Riders. Having worked with the West Indies maestro for five years, Wasim naturally knows a lot about him, including his bizarre schedule while playing in the league.
In a recent discussion with Sportkeeda, Akram reminisced an incident when he met Sunil Narine for breakfast at KKR’s hotel, recalling –
“When I was a part of KKR, I would wake up early for breakfast. Sunil Narine came for breakfast with swollen eyes. I asked him, ‘Hey mate! What’s happening?’ I tried for a West Indies accent, but it did not come out that way. It sounded like a British or Aussie accent.”
He then continued to on and revealed the reason behind Narine looking tired.
“So, yeah, I asked him why he looked tired. He said I haven’t slept. I said what do you mean I haven’t slept. He said I am on West Indies time. I asked him to explain. Sunil said he stays up at night and sleeps in the day. Even Andre Russell, I think he does the same thing. These guys sleep in the day during IPL and stay up the whole night,”
said Wasim Akram.
Despite the weird schedule, Sunil Narine is an absolute IPL legend, picking 172 wickets in 169 matches in the league.
As for Kolkata Kight Riders, they will face Punjab Kings in their next match on April 26 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
