Waqar Younis Slams Pakistan After the India Loss: It’s a mammoth task for Pakistan to qualify for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024, says their former cricketer, Waqar Younis. Younis was talking to Star Sports after the Greens lost a winnable match against their arch-rivals, India.
In a match that was initially interrupted by the rain, India batted first to score a vulnerable total of 119. Chasing that, even after scoring 51 runs by losing just a wicket halfway, Pakistan’s batters seemed to be in a hurry to get back to the pavilion once they came to the crease to bat. This resulted in a 6-wicket loss, their second in two games.

During the discussion, Waqar was asked how Pakistan’s road is to qualify for the Super 8. The reply was ‘very tricky and very bumpy’ by the former legendary batter. Waqar also said that the Greens ‘have themselves to blame’ but not anyone else.
“The road going forward is very tricky and very bumpy at this stage for Pakistan. They have themselves to blame. They can’t really blame anybody. The opportunity was there. It was an easy game to win.”
A bit more runs when Pakistan were at a comfortable stage would have turned the outcome around, according to Waqar. With just 63 needed from 60 deliveries and having 9 wickets in hand, their batters bent their knees in front of India’s vicious bowling attack
“There were 57/1 at the halfway stage. I thought maybe 10 runs short at the halfway mark. They should have been sitting somewhere close to 75 because you lost only one wicket and you were sitting at 57. You should have been a little bit more than that.”
