Virender Sehwag On Why RCB Is Failing In IPL 2024: Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag has pointed out a major issue with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru setup in IP 2024 as the team is currently struggling.
RCB is at the bottom of the IPL 2024 league table with only a singular win in seven matches. In their most recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB conceded what was the biggest total in the history of IPL, as SRH scored a whopping 287 runs in their 20 overs. Suffice it to say that RCB lost that match.
The Royal Challengers are all but out of the tournament as they now need to win all their matches to confirm playoff qualification. That looks almost impossible as the team lacks a decent bowling attack. On the other hand, it is only the last match against SRH where parts of their batting attack lit up.

But if Sehwag was asked, he would have a very different reason for RCB’s woes in the ongoing season. India’s first triple-centurion in Test matches reckons that the lack of Indians in Bengaluru’s coaching and support staff is hurting the side. In a recent discussion with Cricbizz following the SRH vs RCB match, the Nawab of Najafgarh had this to say –

“If you have 12-15 Indian players, just 10 overseas and your entire staff is made of foreigners, that’s an issue. Only a few of them are international players, the rest are all Indians and half of them don’t even understand English. How will you motivate them? Who spends time with them? Who talks to them? I can’t see a single Indian staff member. At least there should be someone who the players can confide in.”
Viru then continued to say that team captain Faf du Plessis being an overseas player whom the young Indian players are not too comfortable with only compound the issue.
“Players need a comfort level which they are not getting presently. Players go blank in front of captain Faf du Plessis because if he asks something, they will have to answer. If the leader is Indian, you can share what’s going through your mind. But if you do that to an overseas player, you may be left out of the Playing XI in the next game. RCB need at least 2-3 Indian support staff,” Sehwag added.
From this point on, it is now or never for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. In their next match, Fa and Virat Kohli’s side will Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
