Virat Kohli Got Trolled for Slow Knock vs SRH: Against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday night at the Uppal Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener and legend Virat Kohli was his team’s highest scorer with a knock of 51 runs. However, Kohli took 43 balls to score 51 runs and failed to compensate for his slowdown in the middle-overs. This led to his trolling and criticism on social media.
With his knock of 51 runs, Kohli consolidated his grasp on the Orange Cap. But the 35-year-old came under the scanner for his lack of intent and struggle to get boundaries after the powerplay.
RCB finished with 206 runs on what Rajat Patidar called a two-paced surface during the mid-match break. However, while Patidar himself was going gung-ho in smashing 50 runs off only 20 balls (a strike rate of 250), walloping five sixes, Kohli went at a poor rate, especially after the powerplay, to end with 51 off 43, a strike rate of 118 with four fours and a single six.
Kohli was 32 (18) after the powerplay and RCB were 61/1. The RCB opener then suffered a slowdown after the field restrictions were lifted: he managed to score only 19 runs in his next 25 deliveries post-powerplay. His strike rate fell from 177 at the end of the first six overs to only 118 at the end of his innings.
It was typical of Kohli to slow his rate down against spinners with more fielders on the boundary, but this time he failed to bat deep and recover his strike rate in the death overs. He was dismissed in the 15th over by Jaydev Unadkat, who used his cutters and slower variations well on a two-paced track.
Kohli received a lot of flak, even from RCB supporters, for his knock. A few funny memes were made about Kohli, while fans generally expressed frustration at the RCB star’s persistent struggle after the powerplay in recent years.
