Virat Kohli Flips Bails To Cause A Wicket: Virat Kohli just pulled off a ‘Stuart Broad’ against South Africa to ensure a wicket. No, he did not run in and bowled a 140 km/h out-swinging beauty, he just walked up to the stumps and flipped the bails around.
Day 2 of the first Test match between India and South Africa was not a pleasant one for the hosts. They were first bowled out for 245 and then found it difficult to pick up any Proteas wickets. After getting a quick wicket in the form of Aiden Markram, the Indian bowlers did not find any success in the next 20+ overs.

In the 28th over, with the score having crossed 100 runs Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi firm on the crease. After the over ended, Virat Kohli thought of bringing an unusual change into the proceedings. He went up to the stumps at the batter’s end and just flipped the bails over.
While there is no way that this brought any change into the playing condition, de Zorzi did get out in the very next over, being caught in the third slip by Yashasvi Jaiswal off of a ball by Jasprit Bumrah.

Earlier in the year, Stuart Broad, playing his last ever Test match in the Ashes series against Australia, did the same thing twice, with both occasions bringing in a wicket soon after.
The first time he did that was when Mark Wood was bowling. Broad’s flipped bails brought in a change in luck that resulted in the crucial wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. The second time he did so was before his last over in international cricket, which resulted in his last and match-winning wicket of Todd Murphy during the Australian chase.
Now that Kohli pulled off the trick, Stuart Broad took to social media to comment on the occurrence in his signature cheeky manner.
“With success @imVkohli?!” Broad inquired on X whether Kohli found some success with this trick.
While India did get their second wicket with the ‘bail flip’ and found a third soon after, Dean Elgar was able to put up a massive individual score of 185. That, coupled with support from the middle-order, resulted in South Africa reaching a score of 408 and a 163-run lead.
