Virat Kohli Childhood Coach Slams Critics: Virat Kohli’s batting has been a point of contention for fans and critics alike in IPL 2024. Currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament with some authority, it is the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star-batter’s strike rate that has been the centre of the conversation. Now, his childhood coach has chimed in.
This all kicked off during RCB’s recent game against Rajasthan Royals. While wickets tumbled around him like a stack of bricks, Kohli remained on the pitch and kept scoring. Besides captain Faf du Plessis, who scored a slow 44-off-33, no other batter even crossed the 10 runs mark or had a strike rate of over 150.
In this scenario, Kohli’s 113-off 72 was not only impressive but vital for the side to put up a respectable total of 183. However, the century which came in 67 balls, was the joint slowest in the history of the league. This has seen several people criticize Kohli for RCB not crossing the 200-run mark and their subsequent defeat at the hands of the Royals.

Is Virat Kohli Playing Too Slow For RCB?
In fact, RR’s Jos Buttler too scored a century in the match but in just 28 balls, hitting a six in the first ball of the last over to win the match.
While Kohli is being criticized by a portion of the cricketing world, others have come to his defense. Those who are defending Virat’s innings point out how he got no support from the rest of the batters in the side.
Virat Kohli Childhood Coach Slams Critics
This is the opinion held by Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, who claims that people who are criticising the former Indian captain for his century against RR don’t know the context of the match and are saying so just to grab headlines.
“Some people who are saying this nonsense, I think they don’t know the context of the match, what the situation of the match was and how the team was struggling. They speak only to be in the news. Just because whenever you speak about a normal player, it does not bring you in the news headlines, but if you speak about a player like Virat Kohli, it brings you in the news headlines,” said Rajkumar Sharma.
Virat Kohli became the first player in IPL 2024 to score a century. He now has 316 runs in just 5 matches with an average of 105 and a strike rate of 146. He is currently 125 runs ahead of Sai Sudharsan in the Orange Cap race, the man second on the list of most runs at 191.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Mumbai Indians in a clash of the titans in their next match on April 11 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
