Vikram Rathour Appointed As New RR Batting Coach: Former Indian Cricket Team batting coach Vikram Rathour has been appointed as the batting coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He joins Rahul Dravid as part of the franchise’s coaching team.
Rathour is a former Indian Test cricketer who represented India from 1996 to 1997. He has had a fine career post-cricket. For years he was a selector for the North Zone. In 2019, Vikram was appointed as the batting coach of the Indian team.
He first became the coach under head coach Ravi Shastri and was retained for the coaching staff when Rahul Dravid became the head coach following the 2021 T20 World Cup.

The duo of Dravid and Rathoud coached India up until the 2024 T20 World Cup, which was a fine end to their stint with the national team, as India won their first World Cup in 13 years. During Vikram’s tenure with India, the team has had several massive wins. Not only did they win the 2024 World Cup, but they also won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in 2020-21.
Vikram Rathoud is a major reason that India has among the highest batting averages in the world for lower-order batters in Test cricket, as the team has expanded their batting down the order over the years.

Rathoud will join Dravid, who was appointed as the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals about a week ago. It is understood that ‘The Wall’ will bring in people he has previously worked with in the Royals coaching staff.
Vikram Rathour has been replaced by Abhishek Nayar as the Indian Cricket Team’s batting coach. Nayar recently won the IPL 2024 as the batting coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) alongside mentor Gautam Gambhir, who is India’s new head coach.

While this is the former Punjab batter’s first stint with an IPL, Rahul Dravid has had a long history in the league. He played the first three seasons of the league with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (Bengaluru) before moving to the Jaipur-based franchise, even captaining them for a couple of seasons before retiring in 2013. He then became the Royals’ mentor for two seasons before going on to coach the India U-19 team and then the senior team.
Dravid will be replacing Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara as the RR head coach. But the legendary wicketkeeper-batter will retain his position as the franchise’s Head of Cricket.
Rajasthan Royals have had a few good seasons in the league recently where they have been contenders. After creating one of the best teams in the league in the 2022 mega-auction, they reached the final in that season. In 2023, the team finished fifth despite winning their first five games. In 2024, they won eight games out of their first nine and reached the playoffs once again.
