Victor Osimhen In Talks With Chelsea: Chelsea has submitted a formal bid for Napoli star Victor Osimhen, as Romelu Lukaku is set to move the other way. This is a massive transfer of two players between clubs, even though they were not a part of a trade.
It has been a few months since the Nigerian striker has been in talks with the London-based club. One of the finest strikers in the world a season ago, Osimhen and his camp received offers from several clubs.
Victor Osimhen In Talks With Chelsea
Chelsea is currently in talks with Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, as reported by Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio. They are also expected to commence talks with Napoli. If a deal is finalised between the two clubs, The Blues can then reach an agreement with the striker.
In a transfer that is much closer to being complete, Lukaku has reached terms with the former Serie A Champions and will travel to Naples this week to complete his medical examination.
In the 2022–23 season, the 25-year-old scored 26 goals and assisted four in 32 Serie A games, winning the Capocannoniere for scoring the most goals in the league. He scored 21 goals in all competitions that season and played a major role in Gli Azzurri lifting their first Scudetto.
But during the 2023-24 season, he decided that he would leave the club following controversy that began with the club’s social media. Long story short, with half the season remaining, Napoli’s star striker had demanded to leave following the end of the season.
On the other side of the transfer saga between Chelsea and Napoli is Romelu Lukaku. After returning to The Blues before the 2021-22 season after a few successful seasons with Inter Milan, he fell out of favour with the team leadership quickly and was loaned back to the Milan-based club the very next season, where he took the team to the UCL final.
Last season, he was on loan to Roma, where he showed glimpses of the world-class attacker he is but was not consistent. The former English champions are now looking to offload their Belgian striker, which they might have done for good.
With Victor Osimhen likely going to South London, it must be known that the Premier League side is not the only club who were keen on signing him. Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli were looking for the Nigerian’s signature as well, but his agent Calenda released a statement saying that his client is not ready to leave European football in what is essentially the prime of his career.
