Vaibhav Suryavanshi Brings IND U-19 To Semis: 13-year-old India under-19 opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a blistering knock of 76 off 46 against UAE U-19 to lead his team to a massive win in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2024.
India took on the UAE in the final match of Group A of the U-19 Asia Cup. The match was being played in the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and saw the home side win the toss and decide to bat first.
The Emirates did not get off to the best start, as opener Aryan Saxena was dismissed in the fifth over, with the team score being 14. No. 3 batter Yayin Rai then got out for a golden duck as the team fell to 17/3.
No. 4 batter Ethan Carl D’Souza and opener Akshat Rai then looked to stabilise the inning, playing for nearly 10 overs together before D’Souza got out for 17. By the time Akshat was dismissed, UAE U-19’s score was 67/4 in the 18th over.
Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, with the whole team getting out for 137 in the 44th over. Middle-order batter Rayan Khan was the team’s top scorer, butting up 35 runs in 48 balls before being bowled by Ayush Mhatre, while Yudhajit Guha was the pick of the bowlers for India U-19, bowling seven overs with the figures of 3/15.

Speaking of Ayush Mhatre, he came out to open the batting alongside 13-year-old Vaichav Suryavanshi. The teenager from Bihar made headlines last month when he became the youngest player to register and then be bought in the IPL< auction, going to the Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 1.10 crores.
Mhatre and Suryavanshi came out with all guns blazing. Especially Vaibhav, who slogged the ball for a six on his first ball of the match, sending it out of the park.
At the start of the inning, the 13-year-old took charge of attacking, hitting three sixes in the first three overs. After six overs, the team score was 40/0, 32 of which were scored by Suryavanshi in just 19 deliveries.
Soon, Mhatre joined the party, and the two started batting UAE U-19 out of the game. In 10 overs, India U-19 had raced to 87/0, with Vaibhav and Ayush playing on 47 and 40, respectively.
Both boys were at the score of 19 together, but it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who reached the milestone of a half-century first, doing so in 32 balls in the 12th over. Mhatre too reached his 50 in the same over in 38 balls as the Boys in Blue reached the 100-run mark.
With victory in sight, the two accelerated, chasing the target down in 16.1 overs and winning the match by 10 wickets and over 200 balls to spare. Suryavanshi scored 76 runs off 46 balls. But it was Ayush Mhatre who was named the Player of the Match for his 67 off 51 and also for taking a wicket in this match.
After a disappointing loss to Pakistan and then a big win over Japan, India U-19’s win over the UAE means that they have qualified for the semi-final of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2024. They will now face Sri Lanka in the semis on Friday, December 6.
