USA Bowler Believes They Can Defeat Pakistan: USA National Cricket Team pacer Ali Khan is confident that his side can repeat the feat of beating Pakistan one more time; he claims that the US outplayed the Asian giants in all departments during their famous contest in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Before the start of the T20 World Cup, it was seen that India and Pakistan were put in an easy group. Apart from the result of that particular game, it was expected that both these teams could defeat Canada, Ireland, and the United States to finish in the top two in Group A and make it to the Super Eight.
The Men in Green took on co-hosts US in their first game. While Pakistan is a former world champion, the USA is playing their first-ever cricket World Cup. The match was being played in the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium near Dallas, Texas, and saw the home team win the toss and choose to bowl first.
With captain Babar Azam’s slow inning of 44 off 43 deliveries, the Pakistan National Cricket Team could only reach a respectable but moderate total of 159/7. In response, a fine inning by Aaron Jones and a captain knock by Monank Patel brought the game to level. In the Super Over, the US scored 18 due to several extras, and Pakistan could only score 13 to complete arguably the greatest upset in cricketing history.
USA Bowler Believes They Can Defeat Pakistan Again
However, US international Ali Khan did not see it that way. The right-arm pacer used to play U-19 cricket for Pakistan before migrating to the States. Following the World Cup, which saw the USA reach the Super Eight stage, Khan claimed that they saw Pakistan as a big side that could be defeated.
In a recent interview, the 33-year-old revisited his national team’s famous victory, recalling that they were not under pressure and believed in their ability to beat Pakistan.
“We weren’t under pressure; they were. We knew we were capable of beating them. We beat Pakistan in all four departments, including fitness,” said Khan.
Ali Khan then showed his confidence in the US national team’s ability to defeat the Men in Green once again. He continued,
“We are capable enough of beating them (the Men in Green) again. No disrespect to them, but I think we are a really good side; if we have a full-strength squad, we can beat any team on our day, not just Pakistan, but it will be a great game if we play them again.”
The win against Pakistan did wonders for cricket in the United States, with even casual sports fans hearing about the mighty upset. With wins over Pakistan and Canada, the US reached the Super Eight stages, where they gave eventual finalists South Africa a tough fight before being demolished by the West Indies and England to bow out of a competition that will always be memorable for them.
