It looks like Manchester United is still not over with Paul Pogba. Two years after his second departure from the club, one of the club legends, Patrice Evra, brought the French midfielder’s name back into the discussion.
United Wanted to Humiliate SAF by Signing Pogba
According to Evra, Manchester United signed Pogba back because the club wanted to humiliate their legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. Evra also spotted light on the fact that he had asked Pogba to sign for Real Madrid instead of returning to Old Trafford. Even though both Pogba and Florentino Perez wanted Pogba in the legendary white jersey, Perez was reluctant to pay a monumental prize that was asked for Pogba by Juventus.
“Manchester United brought Paul Pogba back because they wanted to humiliate Sir Alex Ferguson. I told Paul to not go back because he wanted Real Madrid and Madrid wanted him, but Florentino Perez didn’t want to pay the money.
“His agent called United, and he signed with him without telling me. The club was happy because they were selling shirts, you know the kids love Pogba – it was more commercial than anything on the pitch.”
Pogba is a product of Manchester United’s youth academy. He joined the team when he was 16 years old. But in 2012, he had to leave the club as he was not getting play time under Alex Ferguson. He played for Juventus for 4 years and established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world. In 2016, the money-rich Glazers bought Pogba back, and he played for 6 years in the Red jersey. In 2022, he left Manchester United again to join Juventus for free. Pogba is now on a 4-year ban after failing the doping test.
