Twitter reactions to RCB vs MI last-over thriller: Are RCB onto something really special this season? Could they end their IPL trophy drought finally after 18 years? The start to their campaign in IPL 2025 has been sensational and they could do “Ee Sala Cup Namde” finally this season.
RCB are on a fortress breaching spree right now. Rajat Patidar’s team started the season by defeating defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Then they won their first IPL game against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk in 17 years.
After that, they breached another fortress, the Wankhede Stadium, where they had lost their last six matches, on Monday evening by thumping Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring thriller by only 12 runs.
MI, who now have lost four out of five matches and are left to playing catching up with the rest of the teams very early in the tournament, lost their last game against LSG by 12 runs as well.
Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. MI got a boost as Jasprit Bumrah returned to action after three months. While Bumrah bowled brilliantly straightaway on his return, managing economical figures of 0/29 in a game where both teams posted over 200 runs, other MI bowlers were carted around.
Virat Kohli hit his second-fastest IPL fifty, off 29 balls. Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal formed a solid second-wicket stand of 91 runs off 52 balls to lay the foundation for Patidar and Jitesh Sharma as both went bonkers in the second half of RCB’s innings.
Patidar whacked 64 off 32 balls with five fours and four sixes, and Jitesh muscled 40* off 19, cracking four sixes in his exciting cameo to take RCB to 221.
Rohit Sharma, who returned from a knee injury, hit 17 off 9 but his cameo was short-lived. Will Jacks (22 off 18) and Suryakumar Yadav (28 off 26) struggled for boundaries in their partnership of 41 off 36 balls, and that is where MI fell way behind in the chase.
Their chase, though, was resurrected by Tilak Varma, who in the last match was retired out after struggling to collect boundaries, and skipper Hardik Pandya. Varma plundered 56 off 29 balls, and Pandya blasted 42 off 15 to keep the chase alive.
However, both were dismissed by the 19th over as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood nailed their lengths immaculately. Krunal Pandya got 19 runs to defend off the last six balls. He got rid of Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar on the first two balls and closed out the game for RCB eventually.
Fans on Twitter enjoyed this thrilling RCB vs MI match, and entertained the thoughts whether RCB can go all the way this season.
