The U-19 standout Indian batter first came into the IPL auction in 2020, when he was bought for Rs. 2.4 Crore by the Royals. He only got to play three games in his first season, but it was his second in 2021 where he got more playtime and showed a lot more potential.
While he did play a role in RR’s road to the final in 2022, his first breakout season came in 2023, where he scored 625 runs in 14 games at an average of over 48. Since then, not only has he become a part of Rajasthan’s Indian batting core, but he has also come to be known as one of the most promising young batters in world cricket.

In every full season, he played for Rajasthan. Buttler scored over 300 runs. He even won the Orange Cup in 2022 as his team reached the final, scoring 863 runs in 17 games and scoring four centuries. He has the joint-most tons in IPL history with seven.

The current captain of the Rajasthan Royals is the greatest batter in franchise history and is one of the greatest players overall. While he was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009, he played his first IPL matches in 2013 for the Royals and showed potential in his first three seasons.
After the side’s two-year suspension, he returned to RR in 2018 a whole new player. In the past seven seasons, he has not scored under 300 runs a season once. In 2021, he even replaced Steve Smith and became the youngest franchise captain to date (until Riyan Parag in 2025). In all this time, he has finally made his Indian Cricket Team debut and is even a regular player in T20Is.
Sanju is now playing his 11th season for the Rajasthan Royals in 2025 and scored a solid 66 in the season opener against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In all this time, he has played 147 matches for RR, the most in franchise history, and scored 4000 runs.
