Top 5 WWE Matches Of 2024: 2024 has been a solid year for the WWE. Not only is the interest in their product up, but they have been selling shows out all over the world, making the product global like never before.
With some of the best storylines and matches we have seen in some time, all this change came into fruition with the change in regime in 2022 when Paul “Triple H” Levesque came in charge of the on-screen product.
And while 2023 was his first full year of booking, 2024 is the first year when Triple H and the new regime have fully been in charge. So naturally, some of the best matches and stories we have seen in this era have come in 2024.
Today, we will look at the best WWE matches of 2024. This list of great matches is also a list of some of the best feuds of the years because most of these big and better matches have come as the conclusion of major storylines. Here are the top 5 WWE matches of 2024.
Top 5 WWE Matches Of 2024
5) Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles for the Undisputed WWE Championship – Backlash France
Backlash in France was the first WWE PLE after WrestleMania 40 and the second major show of the year on foreign soil after Elimination Chamber in Australia. While there might not have been a massive storyline going into this one, Rhodes vs. Styles ended up being one of the most memorable matches of the year.
This being Cody’s first Undisputed WWE Championship defence, it is the no-DQ nature of this match or the way the two modern-day maestros wove the story and action of the match in a masterful way. But what made this match one to remember is the generational crowd. Maybe the best crowd at a WWE show, the fans in Lyon, France, came to prove how loud and engaging they can be.
All those factors came together to raise this match from a good match to an all-time great one.
4) Oba Femi (c) vs. Josh Briggs vs. Dijak for the NXT North American Championship – NXT Stand & Deliver 2024
Stand & Deliver is NXT’s biggest showcase. Taking place on WrestleMania weekend each year, this show is like the grandest stage for the developmental brand. So, some of the biggest and best matches on the brand take place at this show.
2024 was also an awesome year for NXT, as new stars rose to prominence; the future of WWE has never looked so bright. But the best NXT match of the year was for the North American Championship between Josh Briggs, Dijak, and champion Oba Femi. The three men tore the house down in a type of match not seen very commonly, a big-man triple-threat.
In what was a hard-hitting affair, the three men showed how hard they can hit but also how well they understand the in-ring psychology. But the star of the show was Oba Femi, who looks to be the next big thing in WWE and most resembles the style and aura of one Batista.
3) Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship – WrestleMania 40 Night One
Gunther is the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. So naturally, the zenith of his title reign must make it onto a list like this. Having been the champion for 666 days, the Ring General defended his title against Sami Zayn in a barnstormer of a match at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
The story going into the match was that Sami was afraid and doubted himself when facing an all-conquering champion like Gunther. So when Sami finally won the match, it was one of the most feel-good moments of the entire year.
The match itself told the story of Gunther dominating Zayn for the most part. But then, Sami had to dig deep and pull out moves rarely seen on WWE TV, like a brainbuster on the apron. It was the overconfidence of the champion that finally made him pay, as Sami Zayn ended the greatest IC title reign of all time.
2) Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship – WrestleMania 40 Night Two
This was it, what felt like the conclusion of the Bloodline saga. Roman Reigns, the champion for 1316 days, defended his title against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania for the second year in a row. As Roman and the Rock defeated Cody and Seth Rollins on Night One of ‘Mania 40, this was going to be a Bloodline Rules match.
While other matches on this list are here because of in-ring brilliance, this one is here because of the sheer grandeur and showmanship of professional wrestling. The start of the match was slow, but it soon turned into the culmination of the Bloodline saga.
First, Jimmy Uso came out to help Reigns but was negated by Jey Uso. Then came Solo Sikoa to attack Rhodes, but he was balanced out by John Cena. The leader of the Cenation then had a face-to-face and was attacked by The Rock.
With the star power at an all-time high and the drama of the match being palpable, The Undertaker came out to help Cody Rhodes and attack The Rock. When Cody finally won and ended Roman’s long title reign, the whole locker room emptied out to congratulate the new face of the company.
1) CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre: Hell in a Cell match – Bad Blood 2024
This is it, the revival of arguably the greatest stipulation in WWE history. Over the past two years, Hell in a Cell matches have been on a dream run. Taking place few and far between, these matches have captured the essence of hopeless violence, an environment and stipulation like that should generate.
All this and more was encapsulated by the Hell in a Cell match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre at the Bad Blood PLE. The culmination of what already was the rivalry of the year, the two men entered the hallowed structure and had a brutal, gory, and storyline-rich match.
When CM Punk finally won this match and put this feud in the rearview, both the men were covered in blood, and the fans in attendance sensed that they had watched something special. This match not only proved that Punk still had what it takes to have a five-star classic but also raised Drew McIntyre to the top tier in the hierarchy of WWE.
