Top 5 Wicket Takers In IPL 2025: IPL 2025 is coming to an end, with only the final between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Punjab Kings remaining, which will be played in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This means that we will be getting a first-time winner of the league for the first time since 2022.
In a league and a format dominated by bowlers, the bowlers who thrive in the Indian Premier League are players who succeeded while swimming upstream. So today, ahead of the ECB vs PBKS final, we will look at some of the highest wicket-takers of this season. These bowlers not only won their teams’ games by taking crucial wickets but also kept the opposition’s run rate low by taking said crucial wickets.
Mind you, the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League at the end of the season will receive the prestigious Purple Cap.
Here are the top 5 wicket takers in IPL 2025.
Top 5 Wicket Takers In IPL 2025
5) Sai Kishore – GT
Gujarat Titans’ Sai Kishore has been one of the most outstanding domestic spin bowlers in India for a few years now. The 28-year-old finally got to play a full season in the IPL for the first time in his career and went above and beyond the expectations the franchise and its fans had of him.
The left-arm finger spinner took 19 wickets in 15 matches this season with a solid average of 20.68. He played a massive role in GT’s march to the playoffs as the team’s leading spinner, above Rashid Khan. Sai also strengthened his case for a place in the Indian Cricket Team with his performance in IPL 2025. Although his domestic performance should be enough for that.
Kishore’s best spell this season came against the Punjab Kings. In a match where every GT bowler conceded a lot of runs en route to PBKS making 243, the left-arm bowler bowled a four-over spell of 3/30.

4) Josh Hazlewood – RCB
Josh Hazlewood showed audiences in India and around the world why he is considered one of the greatest pace bowlers of his generation. While many considered him a Test cricket specialist, the Aussie, who has had a very spotty IPL career so far, utterly dominated the biggest T20 league in the world with his lethal left-arm pace.
Hazlewood has played only 11 matches in IPL 2025 so far, as he missed the last portion of the league stage after the league stoppage in mid-May. Despite missing a lot of matches, the veteran fast bowler has taken 21 wickets in the Indian Premier League this season, which makes this his most prolific season in this league. He has taken these wickets with an average of 15.80, which is the lowest in the competition for anyone with over five wickets, and an economy of 8.30.
The leader of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowling attack this season, Josh, might have played the biggest role in bringing RCB to the final dance. His best spell of the season, 4/33 in four overs, came against the Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru.
Josh Hazlewood is the only bowler on this list who can improve his position, as he will play in the PBKS vs RCB final. He will need to take four wickets to do so, but it is certainly possible.
3) Trent Boult – MI
Trent Boult is having a successful IPL season, which comes as a surprise to absolutely no one. Before this season, the Rajasthan Royals fans lamented as Boult was bought by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2025. But then, the Kiwi had a poor start to the season. However, the veteran left-arm pacer charged up at the same time MI caught some massive form.
Trent has now ended the season with 22 wickets in 16 matches with an average of 23.50 and an economy of 8.96. Despite being in the twilight of his career at the highest level, the New Zealander did exactly what was demanded of him this season, that is, to take wickets in the powerplay. In this season of the Indian Premier League, Boult is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the league alongside Khaleel Ahmed with 10 wickets in the first six overs of an innings.
As for his best spell this season, that came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, as he helped MI restrict the dangerous SRH side to 143/8 with his fantastic four-over spell of 4.26.
2) Noor Ahmad – CSK
Noor Ahmad was an anomaly in this Chennai Super Kings season. This is because he was a shining light in an otherwise grim and dark season for the five-time champions. As CSK suffered their worst season in the Indian Premier League, Noor finally had his breakout season in the league and was in the hunt for the Purple Cap throughout the season despite his team’s poor performances.
While the Super Kings finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in the IPL, the young wrist spinner took 24 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 17 and an economy of 8.16, the lowest on this list. He and Khallel Ahmed carried CSK’s bowling attack. And while Khaleel’s form dipped in the latter half of the season, Noor was consistently great throughout.
Noor Ahmad’s best bowling spell of the season came in Chennai Super Kings’ first match in IPL 2025 against the Mumbai Indians, where the Afghan bowled an excellent four-over spell of 4/18, dismantling the MI batting order.
1) Prasidh Krishna – GT
Before the start of the season, not many considered Prasidh Krishna a top contender for the Purple Cap. While he has been a fine right-arm pace bowler at the domestic and international levels, he has battled with injuries for the past couple of years. That is what stopped him from reaching his full potential in the IPL till now, seeing that he missed the past two seasons entirely.
But despite superstar bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada in the team, it was Prasidh Krishna who became the leader of this bowling attack and its highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025. The Karnataka pacer has taken 25 wickets in 15 matches for the Gujarat Titans this season at an average of 19.52 and an economy of 8.27.
Currently the Purple Cap holder, it is most likely that he will win that award this season, seeing only Hosh Hazlewood is in a realistic distance from him on this list, and he too is four wickets away and will play the final on a batting-friendly track at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
As for Krishna’s best spell of the season, it came against the Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. That day, he bowled a four-over spell of 4/41.
