Top 5 Wicket Takers In IPL 2024: IPL 2024 is in the history books with Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third-ever title. This season of the league was a revolutionary one. With teams scoring more runs than ever before.
This year saw teams cross the 200-run mark more than any other season. The 250-run mark was crossed a whopping eight times in 2024, whereas it was only crossed twice in the previous 16 seasons.
With this season being a batting-dominated season, bowlers taking plentiful wickets were worth their weight in gold for the teams.
The Purple Cap has been an IPL staple since the very first season, with the highest wicket-taker in the league being honored with the award. While a lot of runs were scored this year in the IPL, a lot of wickets were taken as well.
Here are the top five wicket-takers in IPL 2024:
Top 5 Wicket Takers In IPL 2024
5) Harshit Rana
The right-arm pacer emerged as one of the best fast bowlers in the IPL this season. The Delhi-based cricketer not only won the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders but also played a big role in the side’s third IPL trophy.
A part of the franchise since 2021, RAna blossomed into a genuine match-winner in 2024, taking 19 wickets in 13 games with an average of 20.15 and an economy of 9.08
Rana was not the only bowler with 19 wickets this season, as Rajasthan Royals’ Avesh Khan, Punjab Kings’ Arshdep Singh, and fellow KKR all-rounder Andre Russel finished with the same amount of wickets, but finished sixth, seventh, and eighth because of their higher economies.

4) T Natarajan
Like Harshit Rana, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s T Natarajan also played a major role in his team’s journey to the IPL final. Also like Rana, Natarajan finished the league with 19 wickets, but he did so in 14 matches with an average of 24.47 and an economy of 9.05.
The highest wicket-taker for SRH, Natarajan presented his case of being one of the best left-arm pacers in India. This IPL was a showcase for Natarajan in front of the Indian team selectors and the 33-year-old gave a solid audition for selection into the national side.
3) Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah’s solid performance in IPL 2024 may not have been enough for the Mumbai Indians to make it to the playoffs, but his good form this season will make the Indian team fans happy.
The leader of the Indian pace contingent going into the 2024 T20 World Cup, Bumrah had a dream season. In 13 matches, the ace-pacer took 20 wickets with an average of 16.8 and a miserly economy of 6.48. His performances, it is a testament to how bad MI’s season went for them to finish last in the league.
Bumrah was the best-performing Indian bowler who will represent India in the upcoming World Cup, but two Indian bowlers had a better IPL than him.
2) Varun Chakravathy
Varun Chakravarthy’s IPL 2024 was a tale of two halves. In the first six games for KKR, he took five wickets with a high economy rate. But since the match against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 14, the mystery-spinner has taken 16 wickets in nine matches played.
Varun Chakravarthy took 21 wickets in 15 matches in the season with an average of 19.14 and an economy of 8.04. He was the highest wicket-taking spinner this season.
Chakravarthy’s IPL 2024 season, just like him, was a late bloomer. He played a massive role in the side’s dominance in the second half of the tournament. With him leading KKR’s bowling attack in the second half of the tournament, the Knight Riders did not lose a single match.
1) Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel in the Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 was like a gold bar in a coal mine. While that might not be entirely fair, with several brilliant individual performances throughout the season, Harshal was the only consistent performer for PBKS this season (besides Shashank Singh).
With 24 wickets in 14 matches, Harshal became only the third bowler in IPL history to win the Purple Cap twice. He is also the only Indian to achieve the feat. Patel’s 24 wickets came with an average of 19.87 and an economy of 9.73.
Harshal Patel made the selectors regret not picking him in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad with his performances and showcased his abilities for future selection.
