Top 3 Fastest Batters to Score 5000 IPL Runs: Scoring 5000 runs in the IPL is not only a show of a player’s utter longevity at the highest level but also their sheer quality in scoring big runs every season. If a player plays in the league for 10 seasons, they will need to score 500 runs each season to reach the 5000 run mark, which means they will have 10 elite seasons under their belt.
But out of the eight players who have reached this massive milestone, some have done it quicker than others. Today, we will look at the top 3 fastest batters to 5000 IPL runs.
By fastest, we mean by innings. That is, the player who took fewer innings to reach the mark will be considered the fastest. This shows how consistently good players have been whenever they take the field in the Indian Premier League. So let’s get to the list.
Top 3 Fastest Batters to Score 5000 IPL Runs
3) Virat Kohli – 157 innings
Virat Kohli being on this list is hardly surprising. Any record in the IPL related to run scoring will feature the King at some point near the top of the list. The only player on the list to have played all the seasons of the IPL and having played all of them for one team, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli currently has 8326 runs in the league, which is by far the highest.
The legendary batter reached the milestone in IPL 2019 in a game against the Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, scoring 46 on the night as RCB lost the game by six runs. That was the 157th innings in the Indian Premier League for the two-time Orange Cap winner.
2) David Warner – 135 innings
Arguably the greatest overseas player in IPL history, David Warner is the highest-scoring foreign player in the history of this competition, having scored 6565 runs in 184 innings. He scored most of these runs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, 4014 to be exact.
His 135th inning in the IPL came against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, a game in which Warner scored 47 off 33 as the Sunrisers lost in the Super Over.
1) KL Rahul – 130 innings
The newest member of the 5000-run club in the IPL is also the fastest to reach the milestone. KL Rahul made his debut all the way back in 2013. He is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals, having previously played for the Lucknow Super Giants, the Punjab Kings, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, even captaining PBKS and LSG and also being the highest run scorer for both those franchises.
Coming into what will be his 130th inning in the IPL, the record for the fastest to 5000 runs was in sight, as Rahul only needed 51 more to reach the milestone in DC’s most recent game against LSG in IPL 2025. Not only did he score 57 runs, but he also took his team to an easy win over his previous franchise.
