Toni Kroos Announced Retirement From Football: Real Madrid’s legendary footballer Toni Kroos announced that he will hang up his boots after the upcoming EURO 2024. Kroos chose Instagram to let the world know about the end of his illustrious career.
The 34-year-old central midfielder has been a massive piece of Real Madrid’s utter dominance over the past decade. After 10 whole seasons of service to Los Blancos, Kroos’ last club match will be the UEFA Champions League final between Real and Borussia Dortmund.
One of the best football players of the generation is looking to leave the sport on top. He won La Liga with Real Madrid and will compete to win the Champions League for the sixth time in his career. While he has scored only once and assisted nine goals this season, it has been his pin-point passing and generating chances out of nowhere that has made all the best sides in Europe.
In his staggering 463 games for the Madridistas, Kroos has scored 28 goals and assisted 98. His pass percentage for all his time with the team hovers around the 95% mark.

Toni Kroos took to Instagram to post a long message in Spanish and English. The caption on the photo of him winning the 2021–22 Champions League reads how he is thankful to the fans for all the support he has received throughout the years. A part of the message had this to say:
“July 17th, 2014 – the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life,” Toni wrote. “My life as a footballer – but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end,” the midfield magician said.
“I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level”

Kroos also showed his immaculate love for the Madrid supporters.
“I will never forget that insolent successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one, he continued.”
Kroos had earlier said that Madrid would be his last club. The German made it happen by making the retirement decision at the peak of his performance level, and he is proud of that.
“At the same time, this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro Championship. As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level. From now on there is only one leading thought: a por la 15!!! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!,” Kroos added.
One of the greatest football minds of this generation, Kroos also won the FIFA World Cup with Germany in 2014. He would have a perfect send-off from football in mind, which includes winning the Champions League with Real Madrid before winning the Euros this summer with Germany, the second being a much taller task.
The 2024 UEFA Euros will be played in Kroos’ home-country of Germany. The home side is in Group A with Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland. The tournament will kick off on June 14, with Germany taking on Scotland in the opening match.
