The last 5 India Test Match Series In England

5) ENG Vs IND Test Series 2007 (1-0 India)

This was the first India vs England Test series under the ‘Pataudi Trophy’ name and was the third time that the Indians were triumphant in a Test series in England after 1971 and 1986.

Under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, India played the Three Lions in the first of three Tests at Lord’s, with the home side winning the toss and deciding to bat. The English scored 298 runs, with India scoring just 201 in response. In their second inning, England scored 282 with Kevin Pietersen scoring a ton. Then, in the fourth, India survived by the skin of their teeth, as they had only one wicket left at the end of the match.

The second match was a historic affair in Nottingham. India won the toss and decided to field first, bowling the English out for 198 as Zaheer Khan took four. In response, India scored 481 runs. England scored 355 in the third inning, giving India a 73-run target, which they chased down and won the game.

With a draw in the third and final game of the series, where Anil Kumble scored a century and took five wickets, India won the Test series 1-0. As stated above, this was the Men in Blue’s third series win in England. And as of now, it has also been their last.

4) ENG Vs IND Test Series 2011 (4-0 England)

The Indian Cricket Team, which had risen to being No. 1 in Test rankings just a couple of years back, was thoroughly dismantled in this series. Not only did they lose all four matches, but they lost them by some margin.

In the first Test at Lord’s, England declared their first innings at 474/8 as KP scored a double-hundred; India was bowled out for 286 with Rahul Dravid scoring a century. The home side then made 269 before declaring. With a target of 458 in the final inning, India managed to make only 261 as James Anderson took a fifer in the second inning, with England winning the match by 196 runs.

The second Test in Nottingham saw Stuart Broad take six wickets in an innings and score a half-century. While India saw Dravid score another ton and take a solid lead in the first inning, England made 544 runs in the second and bowled India out for 158 off the back of a fifer by Tim Bresnan and won the match by a whopping 319.

The third match in Birmingham saw India bat first and get bowled out for 224. In response, England declared their inning on 710. Alastair Cook scored 294, and Eoin Morgan made a hundred. With India scoring 486 runs, they only managed to make 244 and lost the match by an innings and 242 runs.

But this humiliation ritual was not over yet, as the fourth and final Test at The Oval remained. The English batted first and declared for 591, with Ian Bell scoring 235. India then scored 300, with Rahul Dravid scoring 146, but the team was forced to follow on. In their second inning, the Indians scored 283 and lost the match by an inning and eight runs.

3) ENG Vs IND Test Series 2014 (3-1 England)

Three years later, India toured England once more. And this time, things looked much more even, especially after the first Test in Nottingham. India batted first and made 457, which was countered by 496 by England. Murali Vijay scored 146, while Joe Root made 154. The match ended in a draw before India could end their second innings, where they neared 400 runs.

The second match at Lord’s is a historic one. India made 295 while batting first, while England took a 24-run lead with 319 runs. India’s 342-run second inning gave the home side a target of 318 runs. But with a seven-wicket spell by Ishant Sharma, which has gone down in history books as one of the best Indian performances in England, India won the match by 95 runs.

But the remainder of the series was the same old English dominance. The third game of the series in Southampton saw England score 569 in the first inning, declare twice, and win by 266 runs. Anderson took a fifer while Gary Ballance and Ian Bell scored 150s. The fourth match in Manchester saw England bowl India out for 152 and 161, make 367 in their singular innings, and win the match by an inning and 54 runs as Stuart Broad took six wickets.

The last match, with the series result on the line at The Oval, saw India get rolled over for 148 runs. England then made 486 runs, with Joe Root scoring 149. India was then bowled out for 94 as the home side won the match by an innings and 244 runs and won this India vs England series 3-1.

2) ENG Vs IND Test Series 2018 (4-1 England)

This series, apart from its one-sided result, is remembered for Virat Kohli’s heroics with the bat, as the then Indian Cricket Team captain made 593 runs in five games. However, the series was still won by England, just like the first match in Birmingham, where the English batted first and made 287, followed by India making 274 with Kohli making 149 of those. The English made 180 in the third but bungled India out for 162 in the fourth, winning this close contest by 31 runs.

The second game at Lord’s was a much more one-sided affair. India were bowled out for 107 in the first inning. England then declared for 396 as Chris Woakes scored 137. The Men in Blue then made 130 in their second inning and lost the game by an innings and 159 runs.

India did win the third match of the series in Nottingham, scoring 329 in the first inning and bowling England out for 161. India then declared their second innings for 352 and bowled the opposition out for 317, winning the match by 203 runs as Virat made 97 and 103 in the two innings, respectively.

The fourth Test in Southampton was quite straightforward. The Three Lions made 248 in the first inning, with India taking the lead by making 273 as Cheteshwar Pujara made 132. The English made 271 in the third, and India got out for 184 in the fourth inning, losing the match by 60 runs. And to put a nail in the coffin, the home side dominated the fifth and final Test at The Oval; they scored 332 runs in the first inning and took a 40-run lead as India only managed to score 292. Then, in the third inning, England declared for 423 as Alastair Cook made 147. With a target of 464, India did make 345 with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant making 100s, but ended up losing the match by 118 runs.

1) ENG vs IND Test Series 2022 (2-2 Draw)

This is quite a unique series in the history of India vs England cricket, seeing that the final Test was played almost a year after the other four, but we are getting ahead of ourselves. The first match in this series was played in Nottingham and ended in a draw. England made 183 and 303 in their two innings, with Joe Root making a century in the second, while India made 278 and 52/1 in their two.

The second match at Lord’s saw KL Rahul’s 129 lead India to 364 runs, but England took the lead as captain Root’s 180 took the team to 391. On a tough track, India then declared their second inning at 298 and bowled the home side out for 120, winning the match by 151 runs.

The English pulled even in the third match at Leeds. They bowled India out for 78 in the first inning and made 432 when it was their turn to bat as Root made another ton, and dismissed India for 278 runs in their second inning, winning by 76 runs. In the fourth match at The Oval, India made 191 while batting first, while England took a 99-run lead by making 290 runs. In the third inning, India notched up 466 runs with Rohit Sharma making 127; this was followed by England getting out for 210 and losing the game by 157 runs.

Ahead of the fifth and final match, a player in the Indian camp tested positive for COVID-19. At first, the game was cancelled. But then, it was announced that the fifth match would be played in 2022, which ended up happening. The fifth and final Test of this series was played in Birmingham in July 2022 and saw India make 416 runs in the first innings with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja scoring 50s. England made 284 runs in their first inning, with Jonny Bairstow making a ton.

In their second innings, India were bowled out for 245. Then, England chased the target of 378 down with relative ease. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow scored centuries as England won the match by seven wickets and tied the most recent India vs England Test series in England 2-2.
