Tamim Iqbal Suffers Heart Attack On Field: Former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal was hospitalized after suffering from massive chest pains which could stem from a heart attack. He experienced all this while playing a match in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Tamim was leading the Mohammedan Sporting Club against the Shinepukur Cricket Club in a DPL match on Monday, March 24, at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No.3 Ground in Savar, Dhaka. He did go out for the toss before the game. Then, while fielding, Iqbal felt some discomfort in his chest. It was then decided that he would be rushed out to a hospital with a helicopter.

However, the 36-year-old couldn’t be flown out as he wasn’t in a condition to be airlifted. So, he was instead taken to the Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialised Hospital in Dhaka.
“Tamim is currently hospitalised, and his condition was not good enough for him to be airlifted,” said a Mohammedan Sporting Club official.
While the condition is definitely with his heart, it could be a minor heart attack, but we still do not have a complete picture of what exactly happened to Tamim Iqbal. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Debashish Chowdhury laid out all the details known to the public in a statement.
“He complained of having chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was checked and underwent an ECG. There was a little problem, and at times you cannot understand immediately,” he said.
“In the first blood test, there was a problem. He said he was feeling uncomfortable and wanted to go back to Dhaka. An ambulance was called in, and when he was returning to the field from the hospital, he felt a pain in his chest again. He was then brought to the hospital for the second time, and it seemed he had a massive heart attack. Now he is under observation at Fazilatunnesa Hospital,” he continued.
It is now understood that Iqbal will undergo an operation, and a stent will be inserted in his artery, which will allow a narrow artery to keep it open for proper blood flow.
As for Tamim’s form in the DPL, it was solid. After retiring from international cricket earlier this year, he has looked in decent form and scored 368 runs in seven matches with an average of 73.6 in the DPL. Before this, in the Bangladesh Premier League, Tamim Iqbal scored 413 runs in 14 games. He also leads Fortune Barishal to the title, scoring a 29-ball 54 in the final against the Chittagong Kings.
