List Of Australian Batsmen With More Than 10000 Test Runs

Australian batsmen with more than 10000 Test runs: On January 29, 2025, Steve Smith became the 4th Australian batsman and 15th overall in the world to cross the 10000-run landmark.

He achieved this feat during Australia’s first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Australia are currently on a tour of Sri Lanka that includes two Tests and two ODIs.

Smith is leading Australia in the Test series in the absence of Pat Cummins, who had opted out of this tour due to the birth of his child.

Smith had fallen only one run short of 10000 runs in his previous Test, which was against India. He missed the opportunity to get to 10000 Test runs in front of his family and friends at his home ground in Sydney. Smith needed 38 runs in Sydney to get to the mark of 1000 Test runs, but he managed scores of 33 and 4, ending the BGT 2024-25 with 9999 Test runs.

In Galle, he tapped a ball, the first ball he faced in the match, off left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, on the leg side to reach the milestone of 10000 Test runs.

Before Smith, only three Australian batsmen had attained this record. And Smith has a better average than the other three.

Australian batsmen with more than 10000 Test runs:

    1. Ricky Ponting – 13378 runs
    2. Allan Border – 11174 runs
    3. Steve Waugh – 10927 runs
    4. Steve Smith – 10000* runs

Also, Smith is the fifth-fastest (in terms of innings taken) to reach 10000 Test runs.

Fastest to 10000 runs in Tests (by innings):

    195 innings – Brian Lara

    195 innings – Sachin Tendulkar

    195 innings – Kumar Sangakkara

    196 innings – Ricky Ponting

    205 innings – Steve Smith

Meanwhile, currently, Smith has 34 Test centuries to his name, which puts him joint-seventh in the list of most Test centuries. Among Australians, only Ponting (41) has more Test hundreds than Smith.

Watch: Virat Kohli Taunts SCG Crowd With Sandpaper Incident

Virat Kohli Taunts SCG Crowd With Sandpaper Incident: In a hilarious and shocking event, Indian superstar cricketer Virat Kohli taunted the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during day 3 of the BGT 2024-25 by imitating Cameron Bancroft’s sandpaper antics.

Day 3 of the fifth Test of the series got underway on Sunday in Sydney. Australia bowled India out for 147 runs, setting up a target of 162 runs to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and seal a place in the ICC WTC final.

During Australia’s second innings, Kohli had a go at the SCG crowd. He emptied his pockets and showed it to the crowd.

The fans got riled up, and the noise grew. Kohli didn’t stop there. He imitated how Bancroft had put the sandpaper inside his underwear and how he’d used it to shine the ball during the infamous 2018 Sandpaper Gate event in Cape Town.

Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper, observed this antics from Kohli and had a smile on his face.

Watch: Virat Kohli Taunts SCG Crowd With Sandpaper Incident

In 2018 in Newlands, Bancroft was found guilty of tampering with the ball in a Test match in Cape Town, having been coaxed by Steve Smith and David Warner. Smith and Warner were banned for one year and Bancroft for nine months by Cricket Australia.

Meanwhile, the game is tilted towards Australia at lunch on day 3, but India are still fighting without Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah came on to bat and scored a duck. He didn’t take the field during the bowling innings. Prasidh Krishna had confirmed last evening that Bumrah had back spasms due to which he had left the field in the second session on day 2.

Defending 162, India started poorly as they gave plenty of extras down the leg side. Sam Konstas gave Australia another fiery start, cracking 22 runs off 17 balls. Prasidh brought India back in the game with the wickets of Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith.

At lunch, Australia are 71/3, needing 91 more runs to win the Test match, seal the series 3-1, reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, and book a place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final at Lord’s, where South Africa have already secured a berth.

  • Twitter Fired Up After Jasprit Bumrah vs Sam Konstas Fiery Exchange In Last Over On Day 1 Of The 5th Test In Sydney, Watch Video

Twitter Fired Up After Jasprit Bumrah vs Sam Konstas Fiery Exchange In Last Over On Day 1 Of The 5th Test In Sydney, Watch Video

Jasprit Bumrah vs Sam Konstas fight in 5th test: It was a rare show of flourishing emotions from India speedster Jasprit Bumrah when he dismissed Usman Khawaja on the last ball of day 1 of the 5th Test against Australia, which started on Friday in Sydney. But Bumrah’s emotions were directed at the batsman he’d dismissed. Instead, his rage was targeted at the non-striker Sam Konstas.

Also, it was one of the rare instances where the bowler celebrated his wicket while looking at the non-striker, clearly signaling brewing rivalry between Bumrah and Konstas that began in Melbourne, where the young Aussie opener cracked a fifty on debut and pumped Bumrah through scoops and reverse scoops, but the fast bowler knocked him over in the second innings.

At Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah was leading India as Rohit Sharma had “chosen to rest” from the last Test of the series amid his poor form—31 runs in five innings on this tour.

Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first on a spicy pitch with plenty of grass on it. The surface also had seam movement throughout the day and offered extra bounce. India got bowled out for 185 runs. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 40, and Scott Boland took 4/31. Bumrah contributed with the bat, scoring 22 off 17 balls with three fours and a six.

He then continued on his surreal form with the ball in this series and took only two overs to nip out Khawaja. But it came with a lot of drama surrounding it.

Ahead of the penultimate ball of the day, Khawaja stopped Bumrah in his run-up, which irritated the pacer. Konstas then, from the non-striker’s end, chirped words toward Bumrah, who charged towards him for a fiery altercation that needed the umpire to sort out and separate the two hot-headed players.

A ball later, Bumrah dismissed Khawaja, having him edge to KL Rahul at second slip. That fired up the Indians. Bumrah quickly turned around to Konstas and started to walk towards him. He’d taken only a couple of steps before he realized he shouldn’t and turned and was soon mobbed by his teammates.

Bumrah moved away from his teammates and roared at Konstas in his flaming celebration. Virat Kohli, who had shoulder barged Konstas at the MCG, also screamed loudly in Konstas’ face, and so did Prasidh Krishna.

At the end of the day’s play, Rishabh Pant spoke on this battle between Konstas and Bumrah.

“I feel they had a little chit-chat. They wanted to waste some time. I feel that’s the reason he had a conversation with Jassi [Bumrah]. He [Konstas] said something; I didn’t hear it, but I feel that’s the only thing he wanted to do: to just waste some time so we don’t bowl one more over,” Pant said.

Day 2 promises an exciting start with another round of Bumrah vs Konstas.

  • Baller Boland Bowled India Out As Visitors’ Batting Nightmare Continues

Baller Boland Bowled India Out As Visitors’ Batting Nightmare Continues

India Out for 185 On the 1st Day of the Test: India continued their terrible batting form, as Australia bowled the visitors out for 185 in the first innings on Day 1 of the 5th Test in BGT 2024-25. India vs Australia fifth Test is taking place in Sydney. Scott Boland’s 4-for became the Key for the home side.

India Out for 185 On the 1st Day of the Test

Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat first. As the match started, India got the first knock in the fourth over. Opener KL Rahul got caught by Sam Konstas in the over of Mitchel Starc. India were at 11 and Rahul scored 4 runs.

Australia didn’t let India breathe as the visitors got the second knock 3 overs later. In the th over, in-form young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal(10/26) was caught by Webster in a stunning delivery by Boland—score 17/2.

India lost the next wicket in the 24th over when Shubhman Gill, who replaced Rohit Sharma in the Playing 11, went out for 20 runs in the ball of Natha Lyon. Star batter Virat Kohli continued his poor form, getting out in the same fashion as he did in the last match. Virat scored 17 runs and Boland got his wicket. India were at 72 losing 4 wickets at that time.

India continued tolose wickets in regular fashion and apart from Rishabh Pant, who scored 40 runs before getting caught by Cummins in a Boland delivery

Indian innings ended at 185 in 72.2 overs. Boland took 4 wickets for Australia while Mitchell Starc took 3. Captain Cummins also contributed by taking 2 key wickets.

Replying to India’s 185, Australia lost their first wicket in the very 3rd over. The things that led to that wicket are pretty dramatic. For Australia openers Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja were batting. Captain Bumrah had an intense exchange with the youngster Konstas at the beginning of the 3rd over. Bumrah looked furious and got the wicket of Khawaja in the last ball. The Indian star bowler then had an intense staredown with Konstas which led the Indian players to go crazy.

At the stumps, Australia are at 9 runs losing 1 wicket in 3 overs.

  • BGT AUS vs IND Dream11 Prediction, Australia vs India 5th Test Prediction

BGT AUS vs IND Dream11 Prediction, Australia vs India 5th Test Prediction

AUS vs IND Dream11 Prediction BGT: The BGT 2024-25 is down to its last Test, the fifth Test, which will kick off on January 3rd, Friday, at the SCG in Sydney.

Australia have taken an unassailable 2-1 lead after their memorable victory in the 4th Test in Melbourne, where they won by 184 runs with about 13 overs left in the match. India were behind throughout the Test match but managed to fight back and keep themselves alive with inspiring individual performances until they collapsed in the last session on day 5.

Things have been on a downturn for India since their 295-run win in Perth. They were hammered by 10 wickets in Adelaide, dominated in the drawn Brisbane Test, and lost a competitive contest in Melbourne.

Though India have fluffed the opportunity to win their third consecutive Test series in Australia, there’s still loads to play for for both teams.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy remains up for grabs, and so is a place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. India will need a win in Sydney to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and keep themselves alive in the race to the WTC final. Australia are desperate to beat India in a Test series, something they haven’t done since the 2014/15 home series. A win for Australia at the SCG will take them to a second consecutive WTC final.

Meanwhile, Australia have confirmed that Mitchell Marsh is dropped from the XI and will be replaced by the uncapped Beau Webster. For India, there is at least one change: Akash Deep is ruled out due to a stiff back. Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana are the other pacers in the squad. India might also consider bringing back Shubman Gill in the XI, in place of either Washington Sundar or Akash Deep. There are rumours of the possibility of Rishabh Pant also facing the axe.

Australia vs India head-to-head in Test cricket:

Australia and India have contested 111 Test matches between them. From these, Australia won 47, India won 33, 30 were drawn, and one Test was tied.

    Australia vs India pitch report:

The SCG is a bit of a dull pitch with not offering much to the bowlers. Four of the last six Tests here have been drawn. And India’s last three Tests here also ended in draws.

Since January 2015, batsmen have averaged a whopping 54 at the SCG, and bowlers have averaged 33. There is an incorrect perception that spinners get help at the SCG. Because of the lifeless, slow, and low pitch, bowlers aren’t able to force errors consistently throughout the Test match, even on day 5.

Australia vs India Dream11 Captaincy Prediction:

Australia batsman Steve Smith is a great Dream11 captaincy option for the 5th IND vs AUS Test match at this home ground in Sydney. He has a terrific record at the SCG: in 11 Tests in Sydney, Smith has hit four centuries and seven fifties and averages 70. He has been unbelievably astonishing against India in Sydney—cracking two centuries and two fifties in two Tests and averaging 100.

AUS vs IND Dream11 Prediction BGT: n 3 players to watch out for:

The 3 players to watch out for in the Australia vs India 5th Test are Jasprit Bumrah, Steve Smith, and Nathan Lyon.

Australia vs India match prediction: Who will win the 5th Test?

  • “It Is Not A Format Specific Problem” – Aakash Chopra Highlights Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Problem Against Left Arm Pace

“It Is Not A Format Specific Problem” – Aakash Chopra Highlights Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Problem Against Left Arm Pace

Aakash Chopra On Yashasvi Jaiswal Pacer Issues: Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has raised concerns with Indian Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s struggles against left-arm pace bowling, claiming that it is not a format-specific issue, but one we have been seeing since the IPL.

The ongoing five-match Australia vs India 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently three matches deep. India won the first match by 295 runs, while Australia made a strong comeback in this series to win the second Test by 10 runs. In the third match, the Aussies were ahead for the most part, but the rains resulted in it ending in a draw.

Jaiswal has not had the best BGT so far. In the three matches so far, he has scored 193 runs. 161 runs of those came in a single inning, apart from which he has failed to make big runs in this series. In the first Test, he scored a duck and a 161; in the second, he scored a duck and a 24; while in the third match, he put up scores of 4 and 4*.

Check Out: Aakash Chopra On Yashasvi Jaiswal Pacer Issues

Out of Yashasvi’s five dismissals in this series, three have come against Mitchell Starc, and it is the three times he has gotten out in the very first over of the inning.

In one of the most memorable incidents in this series, during the inning Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161, at one point, he told Starc that his ball was coming on to him too slow, an incident that has been talked about, mocked, and criticised, and praised a lot.

Ahead of the fourth Test of the series, Aakash Chopra highlighted Jaiswal’s issues against left-arm pacers in a video on his YouTube channel. In the video, he had this to say about Yashasvi:

Aakash Chopra On Yashasvi Jaiswal Pacer Issues

The truth is that Yashasvi Jaiswal is having problems against left-arm pace, and this problem has not started now. It’s been happening regularly. This was happening in the IPL as well, which means it is not a format-specific problem. It is not a Mitchell Starc problem.

Chopra then went on to say that Mitchell Starc’s return to form in this series has only compounded the Indian youngster’s problems.

His numbers against left-arm pace are not that good, and that is getting exploited because, for some strange reason, Mitchell Starc is back to his best. We felt there was a slight slide in his career, but he has again started to bowl with the same rhythm,” he stated.

The fourth India vs Australia Test will be played on December 26 in the Melbourne Cricket Stadium, a Boxing Day Test.

With the series standing at 1-1 after three Tests, the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, to be played in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, are not only crucial for the result of this series but also for the equation for the 2025 World Test Championship final, to be played in England in June of next year.

  • “I Firmly Believe That You…” – Ravichandran Ashwin Opines On Cricketers Receiving Grand Retirement Ceremonies

“I Firmly Believe That You…” – Ravichandran Ashwin Opines On Cricketers Receiving Grand Retirement Ceremonies

R Ashwin Did Not Want Grand Retirement Ceremony: Just days after his retirement from international cricket, former Indian Cricket Team spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his views on massive cricketer retirement ceremonies, saying that neither he nor any other cricketer should receive one.

After over a decade of being India’s premier all-format spin bowler, Ashwin anna announced his retirement from the national team following the third match of the ongoing five-match Australia vs India Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In 106 Test matches for India, the 38-year-old took 537 wickets, making him the second-highest Indian and seventh-highest overall wicket-taker in the format. In his entire international career, he has 765 wickets in 287 matches across all formats.

After such a legendary career for the Indian Cricket Team, many fans would assume that he would receive a grand retirement. However, Ashwin unexpectedly called it a day after the third Test match in Brisbane. He didn’t even finish the series. After the game ended in a draw, he appeared in the post-match press conference, announced his retirement, thanked his team, fans, and opponents, did not take any questions, and just walked away.

R Ashwin Did Not Want Grand Retirement Ceremony

But with fans clamouring for a big ceremony in celebration of his illustrious career, the veteran spinner has very different thoughts. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin discussed the culture of giving celebrities and cricketers massive send-offs. But he reckoned that he, or any other cricketer for that matter, should not receive such farewells.

As far as I am concerned, grand farewells are wrong. I don’t think you should give grand farewell ceremonies to anyone. Especially, I firmly believe that you shouldn’t give me a grand farewell. I don’t want anyone shedding a drop of tear for me. I think grand send-offs are part of a super celebrity culture,” he said.

He then went on to elaborate on his statement, mentioning how rather than throwing grand farewells, people should get inspired by their achievements, saying,

I understand we run behind someone for the love we have for them. But I feel that people should get inspired by one’s achievements, the legacy that one leaves behind, the way one left the game, and the way one has spoken about the game. But farewells are wrong, I think.

Ashwin then went on to say that he has no regrets about announcing his retirement, saying,

Check Out: R Ashwin Did Not Want Grand Retirement Ceremony

I quit this part of my life. It was a full stop to that part of my life. I can talk cricket, I do YouTube, and I love coaching. I can keep myself happy around cricket. I will stay connected with cricket. I don’t have any regrets; I am not angry at anyone. I didn’t cry even one bit. No one else is responsible for my retirement. If there’s someone, I am not aware of it.

While Ravichandran Ashwin did retire from international cricket, he said in his farewell address that he still has a lot of cricket left in him and will be continuing with club cricket, like playing for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025.

As for the Indian Cricket team, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy stands at 1-1 after three matches. The fourth and fifth India vs Australia Tests, to be played in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, are not only crucial for the result of this series but also to determine the finalists for the World Test Championship final 2025 as well.

  • AUS vs IND 4th Test: Ravi Shastri Defends Rishabh Pant After Disappointing Dismissal Today

AUS vs IND 4th Test: Ravi Shastri Defends Rishabh Pant After Disappointing Dismissal Today

Ravi Shastri Defends Rishabh Pant Form: Former Indian Cricket Team player and head coach Ravi Shastri came out to defend Rishabh Pant after the latter got out while playing an unconventional shot in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Today was Day Three of the fourth Australia vs India Test out of five at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Aussies won the toss and decided to bat first. In the first inning, the home side scored 474 runs on the back of a fine ton by Steve Smith and solid 50s by Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and debutant Sam Konstas.

In response, India lost two wickets at a score of 51. But then, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched together a 100-run partnership. But, a few overs before the end of the play of Day Two, both men got out, and so did night-watchman Akashdeep, leaving Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on strike overnight at the score of 164.

On day three, Pant and Jadeja put on some runs together. The Indian wicketkeeper looked a little shaky for all his time on the field. They then decided to take on the Australian bowlers and looked to play big shots.

Check Out: Ravi Shastri Defends Rishabh Pant Form

But one such shot, which he attempted to play over fine leg while batting on 28, saw the ball edging his bat and flying towards third man instead, where he was caught out.

There was a lot of criticism surrounding Rishabh Pant’s wicket. Sunil Gavaskar’s reaction to Pant’s wicket while commentating was quite aggressive and is now going viral.

Stupid, stupid, STUPID! You’ve got two fielders there, and you still go for that. You missed the previous shot, and look where you’ve been caught. That is throwing away your wicket. You cannot say that is your natural game. I’m sorry. That is not your natural game. This is a stupid shot. This is letting your team down badly. You have to understand the situation as well,” said Gavaskar during commentary on ABC Sport.

It has not been a series to remember for Rishabh. In the six innings in four matches so far, he has scored a total of 124 runs, with 37 being his highest score.

Ravi Shastri Defends Rishabh Pant Form

After the play ended for the day, Ravi Shastri came to Pant’s rescue, pointing out how he has gotten out to brilliant deliveries in this series. Shastri told this to Star Sports,

It’s not in every innings he has attempted that shot. Let’s look at the way he was dismissed in each innings; he got 2-3 really good deliveries. He got a really good delivery that left off the length in Adelaide; there was no way he played an attacking shot.

He then went on to say that people need to calm down and not react too much in regard to Pant’s form, saying,

He got another one that left him; he was caught behind. Second innings in Adelaide, the second ball of the day, he gets a good one from Starc, and he nicks it. So, let’s calm down here, guys. It’s not every time he’s throwing it away. He got some good balls as well.

Finally, Shastri gave Pant some much-needed advice.

He had done the hard work. The field had spread out. That’s one aspect of his batting that has to change with time to come. He’s built up a reputation for himself; he comes to the field, he smashes a boundary, and the field spreads. That’s the time when maturity should come in, knock the ball around, and take singles,” said the former head coach.

The play ended on Day three of the fourth India vs Australia Test. The Men in Blue had scored 358/9, trailing the Kangaroos by 116 runs. As for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a whole, the winner of this match will ensure that they will not lose this series and will go into the fifth Test in Sydney with an advantage in this series.

  • Batters’ Collapse Lead India Losing the 4th BGT Test for 184 runs

Batters’ Collapse Lead India Losing the 4th BGT Test for 184 runs

India Lost in the 4th BGT Test for 184 runs: Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fight at the tail end in the first innings and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s incredible contributions at both innings went in vain as India lost the 4th BGT Test for a whopping 184 runs

With the win the Kangaroos reached a step closer to the WTC 2023-25 final where they will meet South Africa, if they reach the final. South Africa had reached the final on Sunday after bating Pakistan in the first Test.

India Lost in the 4th BGT Test for 184 Runs

India needed 340 runs in the second innings to win the match. While a win was a far hope, it was anticipated that the visitors will drag the match to a draw considering 10 wickets in hand and just a day left. But non-surprisingly, India’s top order, except Yashasvi Jaiswal, humiliatred themselves again and the result was them trailing in the on-going series 1-2.

Top Guns Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma repeated their shambolic form, as the former only scored 41 runs in both innings, and the latter could only make 12.

Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out in batting as the youngster scored 82 in the first innings and 84 in the second. Nitish Kumar Reddy who scored a ton at the lower order in the first innings fell for just 1 run from 5 balls. KL Rahul, (0/5), Rishabh Pant, (30/104), Ravindra Jadeja (2/14), all disappointed with the bat.

  • AUS Vs IND 4th Test: Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores His First International Century; Saves India From A Follow-On Alongside Washington Sundar

AUS Vs IND 4th Test: Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores His First International Century; Saves India From A Follow-On Alongside Washington Sundar

Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores Maiden India 100: Indian Cricket Team all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his first century in international cricket against Australia in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With that, he saved India from a follow-on with his partnership alongside Washington Sundar.

Today was Day Three of the fourth match out of five in the Australia vs India Tests, played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. At the start of the day, India looked in trouble. At 164/5, they were trailing Australia by 310 runs. Late in Day Two, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and night watchman Akash Deep lost their wickets.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores Maiden India 100

Today’s play started with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on strike. Immediately a few wicket-taking opportunities were created. While Pant hit shots through slips on a couple of occasions, Jadeja attempted a misguided run and was nearly run out. Soon, Rishabh attempted a run where there was none too and gave the Indian fans a scare.

Finally, when looking to play in the unconventional way he does, Rishabh Pant was finally dismissed when an edge off his bat was caught at third man. Soon after, with India still 253 runs behind, Ravindra Jadeja was trapped in front of the stumps and was dismissed.

With Nitish Kumar Reddy on strike alongside a fresh Washington Sundar, the two youngsters looked to save India’s inning. Not looking to hold back, Reddy started hitting back at the bowlers, scoring a few boundaries and even a six. At the end of the first session of the day, Nitish was batting at 40 while Washy was batting at five in 27 deliveries.

Soon after lunch, Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his first 50 in Test cricket, bringing out the iconic ‘Pushpa’ celebration. Soon, Washington joined the party as the two crossed the 272-run mark, the line for the follow-on.

While Reddy raced towards the next milestone, Sundar was right behind him, taking singles and ticking the scoreboard on. And with probably the best cover drive of the match by Nitish, the partnership reached 100 runs, soon after which rain stopped play for about 40 minutes.

Check Out: Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores Maiden India 100

It took him 146 deliveries, but Washington Sundar reached his 50, his fourth in Test cricket. Nitish Reddy then crossed the 90-run mark, entering the nervous 90s in the Indian jersey for the first time. But then, another twist in the tale. With Reddy on 97, Sundar edged the ball and was caught in the slips as India fell to 348/8.

With two tailenders to come, there was no guarantee that Nitish Kumar Reddy would even get the chance to reach his maiden Test 100. On the final ball of Scott Boland’s over, looking to change the strike, Reddy hit it over mid-off but ran two runs alongside Jasprit Bumrah.

In the next over, bowled by Pat Cummins, Bumrah played two balls but was dismissed on the third. With three balls to go in the over and No. 11 batter Mohammed Siraj on strike, it looked increasingly likely that the 21-year-old all-rounder would be stuck on 99. But Siraj brilliantly defended three balls. Then, in the next over, Reddy scored the runs that took him past 100, his first century in international cricket.

Soon after this happened, the day’s play was stopped and then suspended due to bad light. At the end of the day’s play, India was at 358/9, still trailing by 116 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy is on strike alongside Mohammed Siraj on 105 and two runs, respectively.

This inning by Reddy has played a crucial role in this Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The winner of this India vs Australia match will go to the fifth and final Test of this series in Sydney with a chance to win this series.
