Suryakumar Yadav To Miss A Part Of The IPL: World No.1 T20I batter and Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav is set to miss the initial stages of IPL 2024 as he will undergo surgery for a sports hernia injury.
Yadav, who captained India in T20Is in the absence of Rohit Sharma following the 2023 ODI World Cup, suffered an ankle injury while fielding in the 3rd T20 against South Africa on a recent tour.
Suryakumar Yadav To Miss A Part Of The IPL: When Will He Actually Recover?
While Surya was seen on crutches following the ankle injury, he was expected to fully recover ahead of IPL 2024. But now with this sports hernia injury coming into the fray, he is set to miss the initial stages of the domestic T20 league.
Currently, at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where all injured cricketers recover, SKY will fly to Munich, Germany later this week to undergo surgery for his injury.
A sports hernia is a strain or tear of any soft tissues like muscles, tendons, or ligaments in the lower abdomen or groin area. This is a very common injury among cricketers. In 2023, KL Rahul was also diagnosed with a sports hernia and flew to Germany for surgery. He was out of action for two months because of it.
Suryakumar Yadav will join Hardik Pandya as a crucial player for the India national team that will miss the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. While Pandya, who is the captain of the Mumbai Indians, is working hard on getting fit ahead of the IPL, Yadav is set to miss the first few matches of the tournament.
More importantly, both players will play a vital role for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup which is less than six months away. India would want both of these players to be in top condition before that tournament. BCCI might even interfere and reduce their participation in the IPL so they are fit for the World Cup.
