Suresh Raina Comments On Ambassador Shahid Afridi: Former Indian batter Suresh Raina recently reacted to the former Pakistan player being named an ambassador for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
Shahid Afridi is a former T20 World Cup winner. The star all-rounder won the tournament all the way back in 2009 with Pakistan. Afridi is considered one of the greatest on-field characters in cricket history.
Afridi joins several former cricketers in becoming the ambassador for the T20 World Cup. From India, Yuvraj Singh, another former World Cup winner, was picked for the role.
One man who is not a T20 World Cup winner but is a legend of the format regardless is Suresh Raina. The 37-year-old has been a part of several India World Cup squads but has never won the biggest prize in T20 cricket. However, Suresh is a T20 legend and is called ‘Mr. IPL’ due to his records in the early stages of the competition.
What Suresh Raina won was the 2011 ODI World Cup. In fact, the left-handed batter played a crucial role in the team’s historic win.
Suresh Raina Comments On Ambassador Shahid Afridi
Raina retired from international cricket in 2020. He can now be seen commentating on matches for Star Sports. Raina is surprisingly witty and on his feet with the mic in his hand.
A fan recently tweeted at Suresh about Shahid Afridi becoming a World Cup ambassador. In response, the former Indian batter wrote this:
“I’m not an ICC ambassador, but I have the 2011 World Cup at my house. Remember the game at Mohali? Hope it brings back some unforgettable memories for you.”
This was not more than a light jab from one legend of the game to the next. But this statement from him has gained him a lot of fans online. As for Afridi, he has not responded to Raina’s quip as of yet.
