Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings Allrounder Suresh Raina opined about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s absence from the Duleep Trophy.
Virat and Rohit were expected to stay out of the recently occurred Sri Lanka ODIs despite being part of the 2024 T20 World Cup. But as Gautam Gambhir became India’s new head coach, he called India’s big boys to take part in the first series he was coaching. This gave Virat and Rohit little to no rest that they deserved.
Suresh Raina Backs Kohli And Rohit for Ducking Duleep Trophy
When both players decided not to take part in the Duleep Trophy, some fans started questioning it. When this question was asked to Suresh Raina, the former allrounder said that participating in the Duleep Trophy might have helped Kohli and Rohit prepare for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. India haven’t played a Test series in a long time.
Raina also thinks that Virat and Rohit are mature enough to know what needs to be done in the Test series. According to him, sometimes giving time to family is also very important.
Raina was talking to Sports Tak.
“They should have played as the team hasn’t played red-ball cricket for a long time. If you are heading into a busy home season, you need practice with the red ball. I think they are mature enough, and they know what needs to be done as players. Sometimes family time becomes very important.”
India’s Test series with Bangladesh starts in September, with the first Test being played at MA Chidambaram Stadium on the 19th of the month.
