All Sunrisers Hyderabad Retentions For IPL 2025: After a fantastic 2024 season which saw them make it to the final, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone in to retain five players ahead of the IPl 2025 mega auction. Their philosophy has been to maintain their foreign and batting core, two aspects that made the last season a successful one.
Having retained five players, the Sunrisers have one Right to Match (RTM) card left, which they can only use on an uncapped player, seeing they didn’t retain any.
With five players in their squad, none of which are uncapped, SRH has spent Rs. 75 crore in getting these players, leaving 45 crores in the purse for the auction. Here are all the Sunrisers Hyderabad retentions for IPL 2025.
All Sunrisers Hyderabad Retentions For IPL 2025
1) Pat Cummins – 18 Crore
After having an incredible year as the captain of the Australian Cricket Team, Sunrisers Hyderabad splurged a lot of cash on Pat Cummins to bring him in as their captain. And while many questioned this decision, it turned out to be a good one.
While he did not have the best season as a player in 2024, he still took 18 wickets for SRH. Plus, we all know how good Cummins can be with the ball and the bat in t20 cricket. But more importantly, he changed how the Sunrisers played their cricket and revolutionised T20 cricket in some aspects as the skipper.
So despite not being the team’s best player, SRH has put a lot of faith in their captain who brought the team to the final, unlike what KKR did with their league-winning captain Shreyas Iyer.
2) Abhishek Sharma – 14 Crore
Abhishek Sharma was one of the players who enabled Sunrisers Hyderabad to play the type of otherworldly cricket they did in IPL 2024, and he is being rewarded for it.
In the 2024 season, he scored 484 runs in 16 games with an eye-watering strike rate of 204.22. Something unheard of throughout the span of a season. His form in the IPl resulted in Abhishekl getting the India call-up. And while he has been hot and cold in the blue jersey, Sharma did score his maiden international ton.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is seeing Abhishek Sharma as their future and the team’s star Indian batter.
3) Nitish Kumar Reddy – 6 Crore
Nitish Kumar Reddy is someone that Indian cricket has been looking for—a proper pace-bowling all-rounder. He impressed a lot by becoming the IPL 2024 Emerging Player of the Tournament.
In IPL 2024, he scored 303 runs and took two wickets. While that may give the impression that he is a batter who bowls a bit, in domestic cricket, he is known to be a bowler first, which means in different tournaments, different aspects of his game shine.
Nitish Reddy has since made his India debut. In a recent T20I against Bangladesh, he scored 74 runs in 34 balls and then two wickets to win the Player of the Match. He is the kind of player that would go for big bucks if he entered the auction.
4) Heinrich Klassen – 23 Crore
Although Pat Cummins is the official No. 1 retention for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the player who is truly the top pick from this franchise and for the whole of IPL is Heinrich Klassen, who has been retained for a league-high 23 crores.
The South African might be the best T20 batter in the world at the moment. He has also been an absolute beast for the Sunrisers in the IPL. In the two seasons and 28 matches he has played for the franchise so far, Heinrich has made over 900 runs, scoring over 400 in both his seasons with the SRH with a strike rate of over 170.
While the price tag of 23 crores might be a bit much, it is a testament to the faith that Sunrisers Hyderabad have in Heinrich Klassen.
5) Travis Head – 14 Crore
Travis Head was the best player for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season and might have been the best batsman in the league. In fact, he has been among the best limited-overs batters in the world over the past year.
In the IPL last season, the Australian scored 567 runs with a strike rate of over 190 and an average of over 40, arguably the best season an overseas batter has ever had in the league. The explosive starts he provided played a big role in SRH reaching the final in 2024.
With these performances, it is only natural that the Sunrisers tried everything to retain their star opener.
Big Players Not Retained
While the Sunrisers Hyderabad did retain most of their big players, especially their impressive batting attack, they left out a lot of bowlers, including the highest wicket-taker in franchise history, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Other big names left out of the retention list include all-rounder Washington Sundar, pace all-rounder Marco Jansen, and overseas batters Aiden Markram and Glenn Phillips.
