Sunil Gavaskar Gives Batting Advice To Babar Azam: Legendary former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has given out some advice to Pakistan Cricket Team star batter Babar Azam in regards to his technique. This comes after the disappointing appearance of the hosts in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
After an eight-year hiatus, the Champions Trophy as a tournament is back on the ICC calendar. The 2025 edition is primarily being hosted by Pakistan, with India playing all their matches in Dubai. However, despite being the hosts, the Men in Green are already out of the competition just six days in.
In Group A, alongside India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, Pakistan lost their opening game to the Kiwis by 60 runs. Then, in their second match in the tournament, the hosts were thoroughly thrashed by arch-rivals India. And because of other results in the group, they are already out of CT 2025.

The opening game of the competition was Pakistan vs New Zealand. While batting first, the BlackCaps scored 320 runs. Chasing a massive target, Babar looked to play the anchor role in the Pakistan inning. While he did score a half-century, going on to score 64 runs, he did so in 90 deliveries. His slow inning was part of the reason that his team fell quite short of the target.
Then, in the India vs Pakistan match, Azam was trapped by Hardik Pandya and dismissed for 23 runs. This second consecutive disappointing outing by Babar Azam coincided with the second straight loss for Pakistan, mostly because of the failure of their batting line-up.

Sunil Gavaskar recently appeared on former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali’s YouTube channel. In the video, he provided some analysis of Babar’s batting technique and dished out some advice.
“If you ask me, I will tell Babar just one thing. Right now, his stance is quite spread out. If he can reduce the width between his feet, then two things will happen: one, when your feet are spread out, then you face difficulty going on the back foot and front foot, but when you are more balanced (with feet less wide), then you also gain a bit of height while you are a bit down with feet spread out,” the legendary Indian batter said.
He further went on to say,
“So you can judge the bounce and movement of the ball a bit better when you are more upright. And an opening batter needs that height. If he tries to do this, then I believe the run-making ability he used to have will return, and the whole world will enjoy that, not just the Pakistanis…The whole world wants to see him play shots like the flick through mid-wicket he produced (in the match against India).”
Already out of the tournament, Pakistan will now face Bangladesh in their final group game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025; if not for qualification, then for bragging rights on February 27.
