Sunil Gavaskar Bashes Indian Batting Order: Legendary Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar bashed the Indian Cricket Team’s batting order for their poor performance in the ongoing third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
With both teams winning one match each, the third of five Australia vs India Test matches, played in The Gabba in Brisbane, saw India win the toss and decide to bat first. However, almost the entire Day One was washed away by rain, with only 13 overs being played and 28 runs being scored.
On Day Two, the Aussies lost both their openers quickly and were 75/3 when Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed. But what happened next set the course for this entire match. Steve Smith and Travis Head joined forces to bat India out of this match. Smith, who had been struggling in Test cricket in 2024, scored his first ton of the year in the format.

Meanwhile, Head, coming off a brilliant 100 in the last game, scored a 150 this time around. It was the two’s brilliant tons that saw the Kangaroos reach the 400-run mark at the loss of seven wickets by the end of the day.
In order to Sunil Gavaskar bashes Indian batting order, Day Three started with the Australian tail, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey, scoring some quick runs before the team was dismissed for 445. With such a massive score being put up in the first inning, one would assume that the Indian batting would be similar. But that was not the case.
On the second ball of the first over by Mitchell Starc, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked to flick the ball and handed a catch to Mitchell Marsh at mid-wicket. In Starc’s next over, Shubman Gill edged the ball, which was caught at the third slip. Virat Kohli was the next wicket, getting out to Josh Hazelwood in his stereotypical manner, finding the edge of his bat with a ball in the line of the 5th/6th stump.
As Sunil Gavaskar bashes Indian batting order, Before the rains ate up a majority of today’s game as well, Rishabh Pant’s wicket fell too, getting out to Australian captain Pat Cummins.

Sunil Gavaskar, the namesake of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has now torn into the Indian batting order for throwing their wickets away while chasing such a total. The former World Cup winner said that the team looked to reach Australia’s massive score of 400+ quickly, which is not the correct approach for Test cricket, he said.
“Look at how Jaiswal threw away his wicket. When you have such a tough challenge ahead of you, you need to be patient and refrain from playing such shots. You cannot score 445 in half an hour, or even 245 runs—required to avoid the follow-on—in that time period. Shubman Gill chased a ball outside off, and so did Virat Kohli, which was unnecessary. So, there was no role in the pitch. They just played poor shots.”
KL Rahul stood at one end and saw his team’s entire top-order collapse. Looking in fine form, Rahul was at the pitch alongside Indian captain Rohit Sharma at the end of the day’s play, with the score being 51/4 as the Men in Blue were still trailing by 394 runs.
India needs a positive or neutral result in this match if they are to qualify for the World Test Championship final in June 2025 without the need for outside factors to influence. As for the remaining India vs Australia matches of the series, the fourth and fifth Tests will be played in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively.
