Steve Smith To Captain Australia In WI ODIs: Cummins Rested
Pat Cummins, the regular captain of the Australian cricket team across all formats, has been rested for the ODIs against est Indies along with Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc.
In the place of the regulars, debutant Lance Morris has been added to the 13-man squad, and so is Jhye Richardson, who has not played ODIs for Australia since June 2022. The likes of Nathan Ellis and allrounder Aaron Hardie find a place in the squad.
Before the three-match ODI series, the two teams will play a two-match Test match series, where the pace-trio will be part of the squad and Pat Cummins will captain the side.
Talking about young pacers being part of the squad, Australian national team selector and former captain George Bailey had this to say –
“It is a little over 12 months until the Champions Trophy and further opportunities for the likes of Aaron Hardie, Matt Short, Jhye Richardson, and Nathan Ellis will be valuable both to our ongoing improvement as a team and also further their personal experiences in ODI cricket.”
