Steve Smith Scores 100 In 3rd Test vs India: Australian Cricket Team batter Steve Smith finally brought some form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring his first Test century of the year in the first inning of the third Test against India.
Today was Day Two of the third of five Australia vs India Test matches at The Gabba in Brisbane. The first day was almost completely washed away by rain. India won the toss and decided to bowl first, bowling 13 overs on the first day, while the Aussies only scored 28 runs.

India soon found their first wicket, as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for 21 in the 16th over. The other opener, Nathan McSweeney, soon followed suit and became Bumrah’s second wicket. In 19 overs, the home side was 38/2. From this point, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, two men struggling in Test cricket this year, put on some runs before Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Marnus for the score of 12.
With the Kangaroos at 75/3, one would assume that we are headed for yet another disappointing batting performance in this series. But Smith and Travis Head had other ideas.
Both these batters started accumulating runs. While Smith was playing at a pace expected of a Test cricket specialist, Head took the charge of picking the pace up and scoring quickly. The two men reached their half-centuries as the team crossed the 200-run mark.
The lack of wickets here might suggest that India had a poor outing in the field. But the pacers, them being Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Singh, and Mohammed Siraj, did bowl well and created multiple chances. For all his time on the pitch, Steve Smith did not look entirely convincing, with Bumrah and Singh especially troubling him, taking edges off his bat.

But it seemed that Steve had rolled a D-20 on a 20-sided dice before walking out to bat, as despite being a bit shaky at times and almost getting out, he soldiered on and finally scored a 100. He did get out almost immediately after for 101 off 190.
This was his first Test century of the year. Not only that, but before this match he had scored only 232 runs in seven matches with an average of 23.20 in 2024. But after this match, Smith has 333 runs in eight games and 14 innings with an average of 30.27 this year.
Not only that, but this was also Steve Smith’s 10th century against India. Against the Men in Blue, he has scored 2162 in 22 matches and 41 innings with an average of 61.77.
At the end of Day Two of the third India vs Australia match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the home side is at 405/7, with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc on strike at 45 and seven runs, respectively.
