South Africa vs India 2nd Test Live Report: Mohammed Siraj turned on his fire mode, and Proteas batters couldn’t hold on but fell one after the other in a day that saw India dominating the match.
South Africa vs India 2nd Test Live Report: Siraj bags Six Wickets in just 9 Overs
Cape Town saw a mean, merciless Siraj, who clinched an exceptional 6/15 as South Africa collapsed to a mere 55 runs. Opting to bat, the Proteas struggled to counter Siraj’s relentless nine-over opening spell, which brought them down to their worst-ever test-inning score against India.
With only Kyle Verreynne and David Bedingham reaching double figures, South Africa’s batting order crumbled under Siraj’s onslaught. Jasprit Bumrah played a supporting role as Siraj dominated, showcasing his prowess in exploiting the conducive conditions. Debutant Mukesh Kumar also contributed with a couple of wickets towards the end.
The procession of wickets began early, with Aiden Markram edging a corker to slip in the fourth over. Dean Elgar’s dismissal, chopping one onto the stumps, further boosted India’s commanding start. Siraj’s varied deliveries, including a rearing delivery to dismiss Bedingham and a late outswinger to remove Marco Jansen, highlighted his mastery. Jansen’s wicket marked Siraj’s achievement of the third-least expensive five-wicket haul for India.
South Africa’s total of 55 all-outs stands as their lowest test score since readmission. While the pitch favoured fast bowlers, the hosts found themselves in a precarious position with such a meagre total.
India at 144/4 in 31 Overs
Replying to 55, India is currently at 144 runs when 31 overs are finished, which gives them an 87-run lead already. Virat Kohli (44*) and KL Rahul (1*) are on the crease. While Shreyas Iyer and Yashaswi Jaiswal went on duck, Shubman Gill (36) and Rohit Sharma (39) gave India a good start.
