South Africa Thrash England For CT Semifinal Spot: The South African Cricket Team has beaten England in a one-sided Group B contest to book their place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal in style.
The South Africa vs England match was the last Group B match in CT 2025. It was played in Karachi’s National Stadium, and England won the toss and decided to bat first. Oh, was it the wrong decision or what?

Phil Salt opened the batting, hit two boundaries in the first over, and was then dismissed in the first over itself. Then, in the third over, Jamie Smith, who has been exposed massively in this competition by batting at number three, was dismissed in the third over for a duck.
After trying to give his team a good start, in-form Ben Duckett then got out in the seventh over for 24, with the team score being 37/3. At this point, Joe Root and Harry Brook plugged the leak a bit.
It was then in the 17th over and at the team score of 99, with Harry at 19, when he was foxed and dismissed by Keshav Maharaj. Then came in Jos Buttler. Buttler, who was the England Cricket Team captain for this match, announced that he would be giving up the white-ball captaincy because of his team’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy.
But essentially, this was the start of England’s second collapse; as Root departed soon after, Liam Livingstone was out for cheap, and Jamie Overton wasn’t too long for the crease. At the end of the 26th over, the Three Lions were at 129/7.

Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer did try to rescue the inning a bit, scoring 21 and 25 runs, respectively. However, the whole team was dismissed for 179 in the 39th over. With England already out of the tournament, the result here was crucial for Afghanistan, with the Asian side hoping for a major win for the English for their own qualification.
This was never going to be enough for England to win, but one would assume that they would at least make the match a little competitive, but that would not happen. However, as an experiment, South Africa would send Tristan Stubbs to open, and he would get out for a duck when bowled by Jofra Archer. And then, when Ryan Rickelton was bowled by Archer as well in the ninth over, and the score was 47/2, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that this match would be a close one.
But then, Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen batted together for 20 overs and about 130 runs and batted England out of the match. By the time Klassen was dismissed for 64 off 56, the Proteas were six runs away from victory, which came at the hands of David Miller in style with a six.
With South Africa chasing the target down in 29.1 overs, they finished on top of Group B in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with Australia in second. The South African Cricket Team will face the loser of the India vs New Zealand Group A match in the semifinal.
