The Proteas took on Afghanistan in semi-final 1 of the World Cup at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on the night of June 26 (local time).
Looking to make it to the final of a World Cup for the first time in their eighth semi-final appearance, South Africa thrashed Afghanistan by nine wickets, bowling the Afghans out for 56 and chasing the target down in 11 overs.

South Africa will now take on India in the final of the tournament at Barbados’ Kensington Oval. For that to happen, the team has to travel from Trinidad to Barbados. But it is not only the team and their families; several ICC personnel and match officials, who were present for the semi-final in Trinidad, also need to travel for the final.
Before the team departed from Trinidad, there was a disturbance in Bridgetown, Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA). The failed landing of a small private aircraft has led the authorities to close down the runway.

Now that the Barbados Police and Civil Aviation Authority are inspecting the incident, there is a delay of a few hours, stopping all the flights that were to arrive at the airport.
Sharleen Brown, who is a communication specialist for GAIA, had this to say about the incident and the delays it caused:
The private aircraft’s landing gear failed to deploy, but the plane landed safely on the runway at Grantley Adams International Airport.”
The crashed aircraft had three individuals on board, one of whom was the pilot. All the people on the plane were unharmed.
The incident caused a six-hour delay in the South African team’s flight. All of them have now made it to Barbados, over a day before the final against India.
South Africa has won all their games in the 2024 T20 World Cup so far. They had narrow wins over the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal in the group stage before defeating the USA, England, and the West Indies in the Super 8.
Playing against Afghanistan in the semis, South Africa demolished the first-time semi-finalists to make it to their first World Cup final.
South Africa will now play India in the final of the World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. (IST).
