Smriti Mandhana Scores 100 In Loss To Australia: The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has lost the third of the three-match ODI series against Australia. With this win, the Aussies have whitewashed India in this series. This comes despite a historic ton by Smriti Mandhana.
The third match of this series was played at the WACA Ground in Perth, where the Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first.
In the first match, India batted first and managed to put only 100 runs on the board, losing the match by five wickets. The second match saw the Kangaroos bat first and notch up 371 runs, bowling the opposition out for 249 and winning the match by 122 runs.

After dominating the first two matches of the series, the Australian Women’s Cricket Team had a fine start to this match as well. Openers Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll put up 58 runs in 10 overs before Coll was dismissed. That changed when, in the next few overs, Australia lost three more wickets, with the score being 78/4 in the 17th over.
However, from this point, Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner stitched together a 96-run partnership, while Gardner got out after scoring a solid 50. Sutherland went on to score 110 off 95 deliveries. In fact, Annabel then put up a 122-run partnership with captain Tahlia McGrath, who herself scored 56 off 50.
At the end of 50 overs, the home side had scored 298 runs at the loss of six wickets, putting up a massive total for the Women in Blue.
The Indian inning didn’t get off to the best start, as Richa Ghosh was dismissed in the fifth over at a score of 16. But then came in Harleen Deol, who constructed a 118-run partnership with star batter Smriti Mandhana. While Deol took the passive role in this partnership, Mandhana was the one scoring big runs.
However, this partnership was a little slow, as, by the time Harleen was dismissed after scoring 39 off 64, India was at 134 in the 28th over. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then came to bat but was dismissed rather quickly.
Smriti went on to score a century, which was her ninth 100 in just her 91st ODI. This is the most centuries by an Indian woman cricketer in ODI cricket. But soon after reaching the three-digit mark, Mandhana was dismissed for scoring 105 off 109.
However, at 189/4 with over 14 overs remaining to score 110 runs, India could still be considered well in the game. But then followed was a collapse. Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed for 16, Deepti Sharma for 0, and Minnu Mani for eight.
By the time the batting order had collapsed, India was at 201/7. And it wasn’t too long until the whole team was dismissed for 215 as India lost the match by 83 runs. Annabel Sutherland was named the Player of the Match for scoring 110 runs and bowling a fine nine-over spell of 1/34.
The Indian Women’s Cricket Team will now host the West Indies for three T20I and three ODI series at home to close out the year.
