Simon Doull Has Controversial Opinion On MS Dhoni: Former New Zealand pacer and current broadcaster Simon Doull has said that MS Dhoni should not have been part of the Chennai Super Kings playing XI in their most recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, although in a sarcastic statement.
CSK took on SRH in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Match 18 of IPL 2024. On a slow track, the home side decided to bowl first, which was the correct decision as they stopped the defending champions to a below-par score (for this season) of 165.
Surprisingly, Dhoni came out to bat ahead of Moeen Ali, unsurprisingly, it was when just three balls remained in the innings. The 42-year-old faced two balls and scored 1 run. CSK did end up losing the match convincingly by 6 wickets.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batter did have a more significant batting cameo in CSK’s previous match against Delhi Capitals. He did score 37-off-16 in a 20 rn loss for the Super Kings, getting 32 of those runs via boundaries.

Simon Doull, who is a commentator for the IPL, had called Dhoni’s innings against DC poor, on account of him regularly refusing to take runs. Following CSK’s loss against SRH, the New Zealander sarcastically claimed that MS was injured in the last match and shouldn’t have played this one, saying –
“He was badly injured in the last game and shouldn’t have been a part of the Playing XI against SRH. He could barely run a single in the game against Delhi Capitals. They did some miracle to get him ready for the match against Hyderabad.”
With that win, Sunrisers Hyderabad now have four points in four matches and climbed to fifth in the points table. They will next face Punjab Kings on April 9 in Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
On the other hand, CSK might not have lost any positions in the league table as they are still in third following the loss, they have lost some footing in the race to the top of the table as they now have four points in four matches as well. They will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match on April 8 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
