Shubman Gill Questions Pat Cummins: Indian Cricket Team batter Shubman Gill has hit back at Australian captain Pat Cummins and questioned his claims regarding the recent Adelaide Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
We are now two matches deep in the five-Test Australia vs India series. The first match in Perth’s Optus Stadium saw India be dominant with the ball under the then-incumbent captain Jasprit Bumrah, and 100s by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli led India to a 295-run victory.
In the second match at the Adelaide Oval, it was the Aussies’ turn to dominate with the ball, with Mitchell Starc and captain Cummins wreaking havoc with the pink ball. That, combined with a century by Travis Head, resulted in a 10-wicket win for the home side.
Following the victory in the second Test, Pat Cummins highlighted how his side’s strategy to bowl short balls worked and played a big role in the win of the Australian Cricket Team.
Shubman Gill Questions Pat Cummins Claims
However, Shubman Gill doubts that notion and now has made a contrasting statement to that of the Kangaroo skipper. In a recent press conference ahead of the third Test of the series, Gill questioned Pat’s claim of the short ball strategy working in India. The batter pointed out that apart from the tailenders, only one batter got out to a short ball.
“Short ball pe safalta, I think tail-ender ko chodke mujhe lagta hai ki ek hi batsman out hua hai short ball pe. Toh mujhe pata nahin kaun si safalta ki woh baat kar rahe hain (I think except for the tail-enders, only one batter got out to the short ball, so I do not know what success about the short ball he is talking about),” Gill said.
Shubman Gill missed the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but played in the second. In the two innings he batted in, he scored 31 and 28, respectively, being one of his team’s highest run scorers in a disappointing batting performance for the Men in Blue.
The third Test of the India vs Australia Test series will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14. Then, the last two matches will be played in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively.
For India to qualify for the World Test Championship final in June 2025, they need to avoid any more losses from here and win this series convincingly. Otherwise, their qualification would not be in their own hands.
