Shreyas Iyer Sends Dig At Gambhir: Former KKR captain Shreyas Iyer has opened his heart up on his feeling of not getting enough credit and recognition for leading KKR to their third IPL title last year.
KKR won their first IPL title since 2014 as they beat SRH in the final of the IPL 2024 with Iyer at the helm. However, a major chunk of credit for KKR’s success was given to Gautam Gambhir, the franchise’s mentor last season, while Iyer and head coach Chandrakant Pandit were overshadowed by Gambhir.

Iyer left KKR and entered the auction pool. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, he was scooped up by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore and briefly became the most expensive-ever IPL player before LSG bought Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crore.
Speaking with Times of India, Iyer said, “The major focus was to win the IPL, and thankfully I won it. I personally felt I didn’t get the recognition I wanted to after winning the IPL, but at the end of the day, as long as you have self-integrity and you keep doing the right things when no one is watching, that is more important, and that is what I kept doing.”
Extremely satisfied with the efforts I put in: Shreyas Iyer relishes in Champions Trophy victory
Iyer was India’s top scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which the Men In Blue won on Sunday by beating New Zealand in the final in Dubai. In the tournament, Iyer scored 243 runs in five games at an average of 48 on pitches where 250 was a par total. He was a crucial cog in India’s middle order.
He made two fifties—56 vs. Pakistan and 79 vs New Zealand in the group stage—before recording scores of 45 in the semi-final vs Australia and 48 in the final vs New Zealand.
Iyer added, “When I talk about recognition, it’s about getting that respect. It was about the respect for whatever efforts I put on the field. I think sometimes it gets unnoticed, but extremely satisfied with the efforts I put in because they weren’t easy wickets to bat on. It wasn’t easy to take singles, especially when the bowlers were bowling so tight. I just had the belief in myself that once I get two sixes here or there, I can change the momentum towards our side. Luckily I got them at crucial times.”
