Shreyas Iyer Return To BCCI Central Contract List: Earlier today, reports emerged about the upcoming announcements of BCCI’s central contract for the coming year. It is now believed that Shreyas Iyer, after being dropped from the contract list last year, will be returning to a Grade A contract.
BCCI released a central contract list every year of players who, with some regularity, play for the Indian Cricket Team in any format. These players are divided into four grades, those being A+, A, B, and C.
Generally, Grade A+ is reserved for superstars who play all formats of the games. Last year, it included the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja. Grade A includes key players of the side, who might not be on the A+ level but are crucial nonetheless. Last year, the likes of KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj made this level.

Grade C has players who do not play all the formats all the time. These are either one-format regulars or play a few matches across formats. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav have gotten this contract. Finally, rising stars like Rinku Singh and Tilak Verma, who were new to international cricket last year, got the Grade D contract.
There was some controversy due to the omission of a few players from BCCI’s central contracts last year. The biggest omissions were Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. While Iyer was a key figure in India’s 2024 ODI World Cup final run, Kishan is a double-centurion in ODIs. The two were omitted due to them not playing enough domestic cricket under BCCI’s new policy.
Shreyas Iyer Return To BCCI Central Contract List
However, it now seems that Iyer is returning to the central contract list and will be getting a Grade A contract. Reports suggest that Shreyas Iyer, after his brilliant performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and his regular appearances in domestic cricket, will get an A-grade contract from the Indian cricket board.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will retain their A+ grade central contracts despite not being part of the T20Is. They are big names, and the BCCI thinks that they deserve respect. Shreyas Iyer will be given a contract after his magnificent performances for the Men in Blue,” said a BCCI source.
The news of Kohli and Rohit seemingly getting a Grade A+ contract is surprising as well. This grade is usually left for players who regularly play in all formats of the game. However, after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, both these legends of the game retired from T20Is.
Finally, it seems that Ishan Kishan’s exile from the central contract continues, as there is no news in regard to him getting a BCCI contract this year. It is, however, understandable, as Kishan did not play a single game for the Indian Cricket Team in the last year.
While the official central contract list has not been revealed yet, it is likely that most players who were on the list last season will be on it again this time around, with some new names on the board as well.
