Should Virat Kohli Open for India: Virat Kohli has been struggling to score runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup as an opener. His scores in the World Cup in three matches are 1 against Ireland, 4 against Pakistan, and now a one-ball duck against the USA.
Despite having great success in the IPL 2024 as an opener and becoming the leading scorer of the tournament, Kohli somehow has been fumbling in the last 3 matches.
Should Virat Kohli Open for India? Gavaskar Says Yes
There are a lot of opinions coming around saying the star batter should come down to his usual No. 3 position, where he has had great success on the international level. But former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar thinks Kohli should continue to open for India in the ultimate T20 tournament.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that Kohli should open for India as the veteran can score runs during the powerplay overs.
“Virat Kohli should continue to open the innings as he can score runs in the powerplay overs. He can find the gaps upfront, with field restrictions in the six overs.
“He will get stuck at the number three slot and will find it difficult to score runs as the ball will become old and not come onto the bat as early as a batter would want.
“There is no doubt about Virat’s class, and he just needs to spend some time at the crease. He got a very good ball against the USA. Saurabh bowled a good delivery to dismiss Virat.”
What’s Next for Virat
Despite the batters including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggling in the tournament, India won all 3 matches and qualified for the Super 8, thanks to the impressive bowling department. In fact, it’s the first time in a long time that the team has been carried by the bowlers.
Virat and Co. will meet Canada in their final game of the group stage on June 15 in Florida.
