Should Chelsea Have Signed Cristiano Ronaldo?: Former Chelsea defender William Gallas believes that the London-based club made a mistake when they did not sign Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2022.
In November 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo was released from his contract with Manchester United after the Portuguese legend’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where he shared his lack of faith with the United front office and manager Erik Ten Hag.
That was not a good season for Chelsea, who was hovering around the middle of the table at the time when Ronaldo became available to sign. One of the biggest problems the Blues were facing was their lack of attacking flair, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Raheem Sterling, and Kai Havertz not firing at all that season.

CR7, who till the time he was released from United, was still performing at an elite level in the Premier League in 2022. His form, experience, and winning mentality would have been a good fit for Chelsea.
This is a belief also held by William Gallas, who is a multiple-time Premier League winner with the club. The former French international had this to say in a recent conversation with Genting Casino –
“Chelsea made a mistake by not signing Cristiano Ronaldo. He was available to sign and Chelsea would have been a good club for him. Everyone knows how important Ronaldo can be in the dressing room, he brings a winning mentality and it could have benefited the squad. It was a mistake by Chelsea.”
Rather than going with a big European club, Cristiano Ronaldo became one of the first signings in what would become a boom of European stars moving to Saudi Arabia. Signing for Al-Nassr, Cristiano is still performing on a top level, being the highest goal scorer in the world in 2023.

Chelsea finished 12th in the league in the 2022-23 season, way outside any European spots. Since then, Chelsea has splashed 100s of millions of Euros in the transfer market but are still 11th on the table.
Having already bought the likes of Nicholas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku to solve their attacking needs, Chelsea are now eyeing Napoli star Victor Osimhen. This potential move will also put them dangerously close to breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP).
