Pakistan will host the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is set to take place in the initial months of the year. But the million-dollar question that always arises when the sport is hosted by Pakistan is whether India will travel to their neighboring country.
This time, there is no difference, as the biggest noise around the tournament is the same. Though India hasn’t officially announced that they won’t travel to Pakistan next year, likely the Blues will not.
Shoaib Malik asks India to Play Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Former Pakistani player Shoaib Malik said that ‘sports should remain free from political influence’. The 43-year-old also requested India travel to Pakistan to return the favor, as the Pakistan cricket team had visited India to play in the 2023 World Cup.
“Any political tensions between the countries should be addressed separately from sporting events. Sports should remain free from political influence. Last year, the Pakistani team visited India, and now it’s the Indian team’s turn to reciprocate the same,” urged Mailk.
Malik also talked about the hospitality of Pakistani people. He also opined that touring Pakistan will be a great experience for the team, as many of the current Indian players have never played there.
“Many players have never toured Pakistan. Visiting Pakistan would be a great experience for them. As the Pakistani people are known to be very welcoming, I’m confident the Indian team would receive a warm and friendly reception if they chose to tour the country. The Indian squad should strongly consider making the trip,” he added.
The last time an Indian team toured Pakistan was in 2008 for the Asia Cup. After that, the political turbulence between both nations caused India to decide not to send their team to Pakistan.
