The repeated subbing of Samson caused the fans to react over the alleged politics that goes on in the selection process of the team. The major one was from Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tarur.

Although Samson had a good run in the IPL 2023 and also in the series against Ireland that happened just before the World Cup, he was controversially snubbed from the squad. Back then, this caused a lot of turmoil among netizens, who said that selectors had given chances to players whose statistics were much lower than Samson’s.

Fans were expecting Sanju’s return to the team for the upcoming series, following the poor performance of Suryakumar Yadav. But when the squad was announced, Yadav was named as the captain of the team. This again poked the fans who have been debating over this for so long, including Mr. Tarur.

“This is truly inexplicable. @IamSanjuSamson should have not just been selected, he should have led the side in the absence of all the seniors. His captaincy experience with Kerala and @rajasthanroyals is more current than SKY’s. Our selectors need to explain themselves to the cricket-loving public. And why no @yuzi_chahal either?”
